“Damian Lillard is going to swoop some a**” Jerami Grant gets traded to Portland Trail Blazers for 2025 first round pick

Jerami Grant

The Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin reportedly decided to swap the 2025 first-round pick (via Milwaukee) obtained in the McCollum deal to the Pistons for Jerami Grant, a young veteran who fills a void but may not change the overall picture in Portland, just over 24 hours before Thursday’s NBA Draft. Moving Grant always made sense, but it’s disappointing the Pistons weren’t able to get more of a return. Grant is approaching the final year of his deal and was not a long-term element for the rebuilding Pistons who will now move ahead with Cade Cunningham.

Grant, 28, is the sort of versatile forward with a defensive mindset that the Blazers desperately needed in earlier forms. Grant’s offensive role was a major factor in his decision to choose Detroit over other competitors like the Denver Nuggets. Grant may be more effective as a supporting player, as he has previously demonstrated with the Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder, but he did demonstrate that he was more than just what had been first implied.

Will Jerami Grant help Damian Lillard and the Blazers become title contenders?

For the Pistons previous season, Jerami Grant scored over 19 points per game and was also seen to be a capable perimeter defender. Damian Lillard, an All-Star guard, is therefore receiving assistance in Portland. Lillard’s longtime teammate CJ McCollum was traded to the Pelicans when the Trail Blazers moved him last season. They are currently rebuilding, but by maintaining Lillard and adding fresh pieces to build around him, they seem to be managing to stay competitive. The Conference Finals was the farthest Lillard has advanced in the postseason in his NBA career, and he was able to do so once with McCollum.

Being the No.2 option behind Lillard and adding much-needed defensive integrity gives Jerami Grant the perfect blend in Portland. Grant may now also agree to a four-year, $112 million agreement with the Blazers if both parties decide to take that path. This is a major short-term victory for the Blazers that has a good chance of developing into a long-term gain as well. Portland still has a lot of work to do in terms of building its total squad, but let’s take a brief look at the team’s uncertain rotation in the wake of the significant acquisition of Grant.

The Trail Blazers adopted the stalling strategy last season when Damian Lillard underwent abdominal surgery after eight consecutive playoff appearances. CJ McCollum, Larry Nance Jr., Robert Covington, and Norman Powell were all let go, which led to a season-ending record of 27-55 and the No. 7 overall pick. The first move was to go out and sign Jerami Grant, who Lillard has been pushing for. It’s also important to note that the organisation is holding out the No. 7 selection in an effort to add a seasoned player. Chris Haynes says one possible choice is OG Anunoby.

Ever since he signed with Detroit, Jerami Grant has been a guy that teams have been interested in trading for. In Denver and Oklahoma City, as well as as a top option in Detroit, he has demonstrated his ability to play as a strong role player. Grant was the ideal choice when Portland wanted to compete with Damian Lillard.
