The victories of “Linsanity” in 2012 seemed to end as swiftly as they came, with Jeremy Lin’s departure from the New York Knicks, many reserve positions across the NBA, success in the NBA G League, and his present journey in the Chinese Basketball Association. Lin addressed the aftermath of Linsanity in an interview with The Daily Beast ahead of the HBO premiere of “38 at the Garden,” which examines the societal repercussions of his professional success, which is set to air next week.
The film, called after Lin’s infamous 38-point effort against a Los Angeles Lakers squad led by Kobe Bryant, is claimed to have skirted Lin’s departure from the Knicks, but he did pull back the curtain on some speculations that drove him away from New York and toward the Houston Rockets. That February, he enthralled the sports world with his stellar play for the Knicks, which featured a seven-game winning streak and was called “Linsanity.” Lin was uncomfortable with the phrase and would be for years, but he was also terrified of it.

“Fear of paparazzi,” Jeremy Lin stated of the period when he was at the pinnacle of lunacy. “Fear of individuals pursuing my family members.” I’m afraid of individuals attempting to take from me. Tell me a lie. Profit from me. I’m afraid of the people I care about. Fear of not living up to people’s expectations or missing out on possibilities, and believing that I had to turn them all down.” When asked about the craziest incident during Linsanity and the rumors regarding his relationship with Kim Kardashian, Jeremy Lin had this to say
“Yeah, I’ve never met her before. There are plenty of things that came out… There are so many funny stories and some that are creepy. Everything that you can think of happened and everything that you can’t think of happened. On the lighter end, BMW was like, “Come on down here, sign a couple of autographs, take a couple of photos, and we’ll give you a BMW.”
I was like, “Done.” There were all types of brands that send me free stuff. And then there’s the creepy stuff of people waiting outside my house or my parents’ house. People hiding in the bushes. Girls dropping off panties at my parents’ house and waiting for me there, stalking me. Really weird stuff!”
