Kyrie Irving’s absence during the first half of the previous damaged the team’s chances of winning the title and it further more affected their interpersonal relationships too. The Nets made it out of the play-in tournament games but succumbed to the Boston Celtics in four games during the first round.

Eventually this also gave Kevin Durant second thoughts on whether to continue in an uncertain situation such as the Nets. After a lot of negotiating and convincing, both stars decided to exercise their contracts with the team and this is Kai’s last years with them.

During their first preseason game, Kyrie Irving only had 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in 19 minutes of court time followed by KD’s 13 points. Ben Simmons made his official Nets debut finishing finishing 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Despite the unfortunate loss against the Sixers, Simmons has shown great signs of being a good piece.
