“Need the Memphis scorekeeper in Philly” – Joel Embiid FIRES SHOTS at Jaren Jackson Jr. after 76ers Game 2 win over Nets
Philly takes 2-0 lead over the Brooklyn Nets.
The NBA playoffs have started to take shape really well, and the first-round win predictions have already started. The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Brooklyn Nets at home for another commanding victory. Philly has managed to win both their home games to make the series 2-0. Joel Embiid put up yet another impressive performance for his side with 20 points while taking 19 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. The 76ers came out on top with a 12-point lead as the final score was 84-96.
Speaking at the post-game press conference, Embiid talked about his defense. He highlighted that the team has been playing well defensively for the initial playoffs. This is because they understand that playoff games need the highest level of basketball in order to win. He also spoke about his own defense. While explaining his point, Embiid looked at his stat line and was shocked to see that after a stunning game, he was credited with only three blocks.
“I have… what, three blocks?” he said before taking a pause. “Only three blocks?” the 76ers center asked, sounding surprised. Embiid looked visibly astonished at the number, as he was definitely expecting more than three blocks credited on his stat line. He then went on to say, “I probably need the Memphis scorekeeper in Philly,” leaving the entire press room in splits.
The Memphis scorekeeper comment was made in reference to a conspiracy theory stitched up by NBA Redditors. The belief is that the scorekeeper in Memphis deliberately jacks up the number of blocks made by Jaren Jackson Jr (JJJ). This idea came after observing the stark contrast between Jackson Jr’s block numbers at home against those on the road. The numbers fell nearly by half every time Memphis was visiting.
In brief, it was speculated that the Memphis scorekeeper bet on Jackson winning DPOY and inflated Jackson’s block totals during the Grizzlies home games. Jackson’s three blocks per game lead the NBA this season, tipping the scales in his favor for DPOY.

How does the MVP race look for Joel Embiid?
Joel Embiid has been on the MVP race list consistently for the past couple of seasons. However, he’s always missed out marginally. While Nikola Jokic is the reigning MVP, Embiid has been very impressive this season. Although his numbers are off the roof, he has some tough competition.
The MVP finalists for this season have no fresh faces. All three players eligible for the award are some of the most dominating players in today’s game. Reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, 76ers star Joel Embiid and two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo are all in the hunt for the prestigious award. Antetokounmpo has openly stated that he feels he has been the MVP for the past five seasons. However, both Embiid and Jokic have shown interest in winning the award.
Embiid had mentioned in the past that an MVP award would mean a lot to him. Jokic, on the other hand, would be absolutely thrilled to win three back-to-back MVP awards as the Denver Nuggets star would then silence all those who think he hasn’t been deserving. Needless to say that even though the MVP race has come down to the same three players, they are still as exciting to unfold as it was in previous years.
