The Philadelphia 76ers superstar and MVP Joel Embiid is having a career year yet again. Now the undeniable alpha dog of the 76ers, Embiid turned in another massive game to win over the league-leading Minnesota Timberwolves. Tonight, no other 76ers player posted double-figures in points other than himself and Tyrese Maxey. But Embiid’s otherworldly performance was enough to eclipse the hot streaking Timberwolves.

If that was not enough, Embiid was up against the twin defensive towers of the Timberwolves, Rudy Gobert and Karl Anthony-Towns. Still finishing the game with 51 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists speaks of the magnitude of Embiid’s performance. Since James Harden was traded away, Embiid seems to have taken it upon himself to lead the 76ers singlehandedly.

Last season, Joel Embiid was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. This is after finishing twice in second place to winner Nikola Jokic. In his MVP-winning season, Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 blocks. This season, so far, he seems to have solidified his MVP run with 35.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game.

In this game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Embiid was helped by Tyrese Maxey with a 35-point five-assist outing. The Timberwolves had Anthony Edwards leading them with 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Karl Anthony-Towns chipped in with 23 points and 13 rebounds in their 127-113 losing effort.

Last season, several fans were in two minds about the MVP race. Some said Jokic deserved a third title in a row. Some were taking Embiid’s side. The Championship winning run by Jokic added more questions to Embiid’s MVP win. This time around, Jokic has fallen out of the race so far. Embiid is hoping his performances this season leave fans with no doubt.
