“I feel sorry for him” – John Salley forecasts Draymond Green’s TROUBLING free agency after controversial Domantas Sabonis stomp
Former NBA champion John Salley warns Draymond Green of the consequences of his aggressive behavior on the court and in the market.

According to former four-time champion John Salley, Draymond Green’s suspension for stepping on Domantas Sabonis could have lasting consequences for his future in the NBA. Green, the Golden State Warriors veteran leader, was suspended for one game without pay for his flagrant foul on Sabonis in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Sacramento Kings.
Salley, who won titles with the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers, said that Green’s actions could damage his reputation and his chances of getting a big contract when he becomes a free agent next year.
“Three-game suspension at the end of your career under your contract? Isn’t he supposed to be real? He can get the max. Isn’t this the year I mean we talked about it, we talked about it last year when after he punched (Jordan) Poole (that) was a bad move,” Salley said in an interview with VladTV.
Salley was referring to an incident where Green punched his teammate Jordan Poole in the face during practice. Salley said that Green’s behavior could make teams hesitant to sign him, especially since the NBA is a “league” where owners are “together” and can collude to avoid bidding for certain players.
“Because the owners are together. So I feel sorry for him because there’s not a team that would say ‘We need the mentality of a Draymond Green.’ Or which they all do. They all need that edge, and they need that guy,” added Sally.
Draymond Green ‘lost respect’ for Sabonis over handshake snub
Green’s suspension came after he stomped on Sabonis’ chest in the fourth quarter of Game 2, following a scuffle for a rebound. Sabonis was called for a technical foul for grabbing Green’s leg, and Green was given a flagrant-2 foul that led to an automatic ejection.
Green argued he had to land his foot somewhere and claimed that Sabonis had grabbed his leg twice in two games. “My leg got grabbed,” said Green, referring to play in Game 1 with Malik Monk. “Second time in two nights. Referees, just watch it. I have to land my foot somewhere. I’m not the most flexible person, so it’s not stretching that far.”
Green also said he ‘lost respect’ for Sabonis after he did not stick around after Game 7 to shake hands with him and his teammates. Green discussed the issue on his podcast, The Draymond Green Show. “I went over there to shake his hand because I respect him as a player,” Green said.
