“This is still my city,” John Wall hyped Washington Wizards fans despite scoring points for LA Clippers in absurd scenes
John Wall
John Wall is back in the NBA headlines as he recently returned to the capital city, Washington D.C. But this time the guard was wearing a different jersey and was there to compete against the Washington Wizards. Even though John Wall was a rival, the city welcomed him with the same old energy and he even received a heart-warming standing ovation from the fans.
Recently, the Washington Wizards hosted the Los Angeles Clippers at Capital One Arena. John Wall got a spot in the starting line-up as Reggie Jackson was out on rest. Wall-Star didn’t disappoint the team, Clippers supporters and even Wizards fans. As he balled out and got the dub while getting several highlight-worthy moments in the arena.
The game was closely contested and head-to-head throughout the first half. But in the second one, the Clippers took over the control and eventually won it all at 107-114. In the game, Kyle Kuzma dropped 35 points, had 3 assists and caught 12 boards. Kristaps Porzingis backed him up with 30 points, 15 rebounds and 5 dimes but those numbers weren’t enough for the Wizards to wing against John Wall and squad.
Paul George took care of the offensive end and contributed with 36 points, 6 assists and 7 rebounds. He was backed up by John Wall (13 points, 3 assists and 1 rebound) and Kawhi Leonard (13 points, 6 assists and 8 rebounds). Even though the Wizards, unfortunately, had to part ways with John Wall in the past due to his injuries and availability, the city still has the same love for him.
As during the game, the emotions and the pure connection between John Wall and the Wizards fans were clearly visible. For a moment, it felt like the fans have forgotten that Wall is hooping for the Clippers and not the Wizards.
John Wall claims Washington D.C. to still be his city while balling out against the Wizards
In the second quarter when the Clippers were struggling on the offensive end John Wall stepped up and took care of the business. He added six consecutive points and after hitting a step-back jumper to make it a one-point game with 7 minutes and 32 seconds remaining he had some words for the crowd.
After his jumper, the Wizards called out a timeout to slow him down. So walking back to the bench John Wall pointing toward the court with his index fingers yelled: “This is still my city.” Fans entertained him like he was a Wizards’ player as the section next to him stood up to show respect and admire the moment he was having at Capital One Arena after years.
After the game, talking about the moments he had with the fans and arena in his return, John Wall said: “Trying to fantasize and be in that moment for a minute. It was a lot of chills, trying not to cry, hold back a lot of emotions. I felt like just being here is still so surreal to me, still don’t feel right, still feel different, but like I said, I enjoyed every part of this game.”
The Clippers right now are ranked at the 7th spot in the western conference with a record of 15 wins and 13 losses. Fortunately, the superstar duo of the team is healthy and now they can play some winning basketball. As John Wall is also leading the second unit and improving everyone he can so Kawhi Leonard and Paul George can be backed-up in struggling times.
