Jonathan Kuminga, in tandem with the evergreen Stephen Curry, played a pivotal role as the Golden State Warriors secured a 129-118 victory against the Washington Wizards at the Chase Center. This impressive performance led to the Warriors notching their fourth consecutive win.
Kuminga ended the game with 22 points, four rebounds and three assists. Curry topped the players’ statistics chart with 30 points, four rebounds and seven assists.
In the 6th minute of the third quarter, with the Warriors leading 83-75, a significant moment unfolded. Klay Thompson attempted a three-point shot, but the miss paved the way for Kuminga to execute a monster putback dunk from the rebound. This extraordinary play left even Curry in disbelief, and his reaction, captured on tape, said it all.
Kuminga, who has consistently achieved double-digits in his last five games while filling in for the suspended Draymond Green, has been in sensational form. In the current season, he maintains an impressive average of 12.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1 assist, and a 50.6% field goal accuracy.
Kuminga stepping up in Draymond Green’s absence
In the last five games, Kuminga has displayed an impressive performance since being inserted into the team to replace the suspended Draymond Green. He is beginning to resemble the player the Dubs had hoped for when they selected him as the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
In the initial game following Green’s suspension, a 121-113 loss to the Clippers, Kuminga contributed 15 points, secured five rebounds, and provided one assist. In the overtime victory against the Boston Celtics, he showcased his skills with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Kuminga’s current form is pivotal for the Warriors as they aim to rejuvenate their season. In the absence of Green, the Dubs seem to have regained their footing, and Kuminga’s significant contributions are playing a crucial role. The next challenge for the Warriors is against the Portland Trail Blazers.
