Things took a turn when the Golden State Warriors traded away their young star Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards for the veteran point guard, Chris Paul. Poole was projected to re-join the Warriors after he just signed an extension, but the team reportedly sent him away due to salary complications.
Poole remained silent from the media since the trade was made official, but he finally decided to break that at his introductory press as a member of the Wizards. Poole was bombarded with questions regarding the trade and his incident with Draymond Green. The former Michigan star did his best at dodging the questions, but made sure to talk about his mentors and former teammates Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry.
Poole on his relationship with Steph and Klay said, “Those are the two greatest shooters of all time in my opinion personally, and it’s just things that you learn in practice, in the game, on the road that you wouldn’t be able to learn not being in the mix, and I’m thankful for that, grateful for that.” He also added, “I also built a relationship to where I can ask them, I can text Steph, I can text Klay. I can call them and just have a conversation. So, that doesn’t leave that doesn’t go anywhere.”
The departure of Poole shocked Warriors fans as he was supposed to be the one next-in-line to carry the torch of leading the franchise after Curry and the core group retires but things changed as Poole failed to replicate his earlier success after he signed a massive $120 million extension with the team. Although the reason behind the Jordan Poole trade was not made public, warriors insiders have claimed that it was his relationship with Steve Kerr, who was fed of coaching the young star and his antics.
On the flip side, Poole will be awarded a much greater role with the Wizards as he will be their main offensive guy alongside Kyle Kuzma in D.C. As compared to a title contender like Golden State, the Wizards have just begun their rebuild and are much more suitable for players like Poole to grow and start anew.
Warriors plans to keep Chris Paul with the TEAM
When the trade to bring Chris Paul to the Golden State Warriors broke out everyone speculated that the front office was planning to package the veteran guard in a trade package or dump his salary to clear him off the books, but as per reports, the Warriors are dead serious about running Paul into the lineup.
Given a few thought, the addition makes sense as Paul has been one of the best play-makers the game had ever seen and the Warriors coincidentally feature a ball-movement heavy offense and CP3 could be a much better fit than people would’ve thought.
Draymond Green addressed this topic at the Podcast with P show where he said, ” I thought last year…and Steph said this in his press conference, we ran out of variety … you need to have variety. Our team last year didn’t have a variety of ways to score, and I think CP(Chris Paul) adds another thing to the menu to address the topic of a variety of ways to score.” Green also added, “Well, now, CP can anchor that unit(the second unit)…and I think that is a big thing to helping unlock our team again.”
Green also talked about how young guys on the team could benefit from a true point guard like Paul,” I think it unlocks … I look forward to learning this from him; I think Chris Paul will completely unlock Jonathan Kuminga and his growth and CP(Chris Paul) is great with young guys.” ‘The Point God’ is headed for his 19th NBA season and although a slight decline in his scoring ability was noticeable, his play-making skills are undoubtedly still the best in the league.
The Warriors will still feature their core of Steph, Klay, and Green in their lineup with a few additions of Paul, Jackson Davis, has and Dario Saric. The team has completely revamped and is looking to make one final push at another NBA Championship.
