Golden State Warriors won Game – 2 of the 2022 NBA finals very convincingly, but it was top notch shooting from marquee scorers – Jordan Poole and Steph Curry that turned the game away in the second half from Boston Celtics. Poole in particular set new record which even Michael Jordan and LeBron James couldn’t do in their 15+ seasons in the NBA.

Golden state Warriors looked determined to take on the game right from the tip-off and though Celtics has some early flurry in the game, Warriors settled in well and the dominated the 3rd quarter to level the series in emphatic manner. The game was hanging in balance after playing in 2 quarters, despite 11 turnovers from the Celtics in 1st half. But Warriors got into the groove and as always dominated the 3rd quarter – this time by 21 points differential against the Celtics. The 2 point lead quickly rocketed to 23, which Celtics couldn’t turn around this time, as the lost the game with a 107-88 score. Jordan Poole meanwhile set a record as youngster, scoring record 5 three pointers I the game.

Celtics looked helpless in game 2, particularly with all the Warriors making runs and shots from every possible angles on the court. Jordan Poole and Stephen Curry drained dagger 3 pointers which Celtics couldn’t contend with till end. Jordan Poole’s immaculate shooting earned him title as the youngest shooter to score 5-three pointers in the NBA Finals game – at the age of 22.

We have seen Stephen Curry making some “non-sense” long range shots, particularly with the expiring clock. Klay Thompson also is an elite shooter from the range, but he hardly tried half-court shots or even “LOGO-shots”. Klay being assassin near the three point line, and Steph managed improve on the range. But now even Curry has some competition in that department, from player within the team.

Jordan Poole following his leader, is working hard on the ball handling and long range shooting. He scored 5 three pointers in the game 3 of which were out of range. Poole’s 38-foot, buzzer-beating bomb capped the Warriors’ third-quarter, and home team looked secured with 87-64 lead entering in the fourth quarter.

Excited Jordan said, “We talked about it in shoot-around a couple days ago, (that) somebody was going to hit a half-court shot in this series, whether it was me or Steph, I just happened to hit it.”  The shot-master Steph proudly said, “We shoot halfcourt shots every practice. We have a little competition going. So we count — if you make one during the game, we count it. So he took the lead tonight.”

Poole, 22, also became the youngest player to make five 3-point shots in a NBA Finals game. Poole’s first three pointer was in the first half, when he was just 1-of-5 from the floor. Then he sat some opening minutes of the third quarter while Curry and veterans doing their tasks on the floor.

Poole’s time came from 1:19 in the 3rd quarter until the fourth quarter. He help team hold on to a 27-point lead intact. Poole checked back in and promptly nailed a 3-pointer over Daniel Theis. The Celtics missed an ensuing 3-point try, Andrew Wiggins grabbed the rebound and then Poole nailed his long-distance 3-pointer — just after crossing halfcourt .

Stephen Curry proudly holds record for most three-pointers (9) in Finals game while he is joined by his Splash Brother Klay at 3rd spot again (7).  With Poole hitting 5 three pointers in limited game time is good sign for the Warriors side, where they have yet another shooter to trouble the opponents.

Coach Kerr also praised Poole, as he said, “Jordan is still a very young player, learning on the fly, but he’s had such a great season, and he’s so talented and confident that I have a lot of faith that he’ll figure this out. And I thought tonight he did a good job of finding his way.”

GOAT Michael Jordan set record for most 3-pointer made in 1992 NBA Finals game with 6 against Portland Trail Blazers. With nearly 50% points scored in 3’s MJ and co won the game. LeBron also drained 6 long-range shots in 2020 NBA finals, but Poole scored 5 at age of 22.
