“Should’ve told his guys to defend better,” Josh Hart roasts Monty Williams after Pistons coach criticized Knicks star for ‘stat-padding’
Donte DiVincenzo breaks the Knicks record of most three pointers in a single game.
Josh Hart claps back at Monty Williams
On Monday, the New York Knicks got a huge 25-point win against the Detroit Pistons. The young team is writing their names in the history of one of the most treasured franchises in the NBA. In the win, Knicks forward Donte DiVincenzo impressed the viewers as he set a franchise record for most three-pointers in the game. However, it seems like the player’s performance did not impress Monty Williams.
The Pistons’ head coach, Monty Williams, threw shade at Donte DiVincenzo for his record-breaking night. HC talked about the loss at the press conference. He also answered a question about his reaction to DiVincenzo’s record. Williams accused the player of stat-padding. This is what Williams said:
I don’t care about their team. I couldn’t care less. Those guys, the way they got those 3s. I don’t want to be a part of that story.Monty Williams via post-game interview
New York Knicks star Josh Hart revealed his thoughts on Williams’ statement in the post-game interview. The 29-year-old came to his teammate’s defense and gave a straightforward answer to the question. This is what Hart replied:
If he didn’t wanna be part of the story, he should’ve told his guys to defend better.Josh Hart via post-game interview
The star brutally called out Williams by questioning his position as the head coach. Hart stated that Williams should have told his team members to defend DiVincenzo as he was going on a run. The player referred to the idea as the ‘common sense of basketball.’ These were fiery words from Hart. However, one must note that the Pistons should have done something to stop DiVincenzo. Hence, the blame will have to fall on Williams and the Piston players.
This is the second time Monty Williams has been upset after losing to Knicks
Last month, Monty Williams was upset by the officiating during the close game between the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks. The Pistons had a one-point lead in the final seconds of the matchup. With 7 seconds left in the final quarter, players from both teams got tangled up to get the ball, and what seemed like a clear foul on the Knicks was not called by the referees.
In the play, as a whistle was not called, the Knicks got the possession, and Hart succeeded in shooting a layup and also drew the foul. These last-second points for the Knicks resulted in the team’s win. Williams was furious about the non-call and talked about it at the press conference. As soon as the coach sat down for the conference, he called out the New York media. Check out what the Pistons coach said in the below tweet:
The Pistons are currently the worst team in the NBA. The team has only won 12 of the 72 games they played in the regular season. The poor record has resulted in the team getting kicked out of the playoffs this year. Therefore, the team losing to the 4th-seeded Knicks did not come as a surprise.
