It appears that there is no end to this off-season trade saga. It seemed that the saga would end with Damian Lillard‘s trade to the Milwaukee Bucks. Ironically, however, it was that trade that kept the saga going. In the trade, the Bucks released fan-favorite Jrue Holiday for Lillard. Holiday was traded to Portland, where fans thought he was getting ready to gear up. In a shocking turn of events, however, it turns out the Celtics have traded for him.
The Boston Celtics, one of the most loaded teams in the Eastern Conference, have traded for Jrue Holiday. ESPN analyst, Adrian Wojnarowski, has just reported that Holiday will now be a Boston Celtic. According to sources, the Celtics will be sending Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III and two first-round picks to the Blazers in exchange for Holiday.
According to Woj, this trade will increase the fierce competitiveness of what he calls the “Eastern Conference arms race”.
This trade has had mixed reactions from Celtics fans. While some are happy that the Celtics have acquired a player like Holiday, who is known for his defensive prowess and ability to maintain an excellent locker-room culture, others feel that the Celtics gave away way too much to the Trail Blazers in the deal. Indeed, the Celtics have traded away their primary rim protector and it remains to be seen how they defend the paint once the regular season starts.

How does Jrue Holiday going to the Celtics affect their team?
The Celtics already had a very good team before the Holiday trade. With Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porzingis on the same roster, the Celtics offense already looked excellent.

It appears that now with the addition of Holiday, they might be able to make up for the absence of Marcus Smart, former Celtic and DPOY, who the Celtics traded away this off-season. Holiday is also good at distributing the ball offensively and is capable of performing on both ends of the floor.
The primary disadvantage this trade brings is that Holiday isn’t large enough to be an elite rim protector. The Celtics’ in-paint defense may be compromised since they traded away Robert Williams. The wisdom of this trade also depends on Holiday’s durability, since the Celtics have given up two future picks in exchange. Hopefully, for Celtics’ fans, it all turns out well for them in the end.
