Jrue Holiday shockingly reveals knowing about Damian Lillard trade 5 minutes before move
Jrue Holiday was paramount to the Bucks' championship win but later got traded.
Former Milwaukee Buck Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard
Jrue Holiday, appearing on the “Draymond Green Show,” talked frankly about his trade that brought talisman Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks from the Portland Trail Blazers. And the bone of contention was that he wasn’t given a proper heads-up.
Damian Lillard was rumored to be moving to the Miami Heat while on the Portland Trail Blazers; however, he joined the Milwaukee Bucks to team up with the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Instrumental to that deal was defensive stalwart Jrue Holiday, who had no idea about the deal until the final minutes.
During his conversation with Draymond Green, he recalled how he found out when a call from both the Bucks’ GM and his agent woke him up, and he then received the shocking news. He shared the moment with Green.
Holiday said:
He ended up texting me everything that was happening, like, yeah, we traded you here, here. And then I ended up calling him, and he ended up saying like, yeah, we traded you for Damian Lillard.Jrue Holiday via The Draymond Green Show
Jrue Holiday was in the midst of a siesta when he got a call from the GM. However, he decided to call him back instead of talking to him, but this didn’t work as he immediately got a call from his agent making him aware of his trade. This prompted him to call back his GM and the conversation that ensued gave him more clarity about his being traded for Lillard.
Holiday felt blindsided by the deal while sharing that he would have preferred being given a heads-up. He spent three seasons with the Bucks and won a championship ring. His time with the Celtics has been great, as he struck a great partnership with Derrick White as part of the C’s backcourt.
The Celtics are getting value for their trade for Jrue Holiday
The Boston Celtics have been the best team in the league all season, primarily down to the effort of their formidable duo, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. But as they say, the best defense is the best offense. The acquisition of defensive kingpin Jrue Holiday has plugged a hole the Celtics badly needed to plug last season.
In combination with Derrick White, he has formed one of the league’s most consistent defensive backcourt. The move has eventually paid off, making the C’s one of the favorites for this season’s title.
Furthermore, the C’s have the best record in the league at 57-15, thus putting Holiday in the position where he can fight for his second NBA title. All thanks to his impressive leadership and defensive skills.
