Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl Anthony Towns signed a 5-year, $158,253,000 contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves as a Rookie Maximum extension back in 2019. He still had 2 more seasons on his earlier contract, but the Timberwolves identify him as the centerpiece of their franchise, and went ahead and handed him a long-term contract post-2024 season. That will keep Karl Anthony Towns under contract for six more years, after agreeing to an extension Friday. Interestingly he had an annual average salary of $31,650,600 on an earlier contract, which would be now above $40 Million from the start of the 2024 season.

The deal was said to be formally agreed to early Friday. But by NBA rule, Towns and the Timberwolves had to wait until July 1 to strike their deal and announce their deal. It’s a huge commitment from the Timberwolves, showcasing their intentions to keep star players at the franchise in long run.

Towns deftly bounced back during the 2021-22 season from a couple of rough years, struggling with a wrist injury and waylaid by COVID-19. Drafted as the no. 1 overall pick back in 2015, will be playing his 8th season with the Wolves, and tied till his 13th one by the franchise.
