Shams Charania and Kay Adams

NBA Insider Shams Charania recently sat down for an interview with Kay Adams on her show. He provides all the news from the NBA world through the ‘Athletic.’ On the show, Kay took a shot at Shams asking him a few questions about his personal life.

Kay Adams asked Shams Charania a series of questions on her show ‘Up and Adams’, and she did seem to get ‘flirty’ with him. She started by saying, “So, when we have kids,” and before she could continue, Shams interrupted by saying that Kay was joking and shifted to a different topic about how kids and students should follow their dreams.

The early life of Shams Charania

Shams Charania

Shams was born in Chicago to Pakistani parents who immigrated to the US in the 1980s. He was raised in Illinois and attended New Trier High School. He graduated from Loyola University Chicago and soon began his sports writing career at age 17, covering the Chicago Bulls for ‘ChicagoNow.’

In 2012, Charania started writing for ‘RealGM’ and reporting small transactions around the league. After several years, Adrian Wojnarowski learned about Shams, who was then working for Yahoo Sports and described Charania as “the best young reporter.” After joining Yahoo, Charania began to break the news of deals and high-profile signings in the summer of 2016 including Dwight Howard‘s move to the Atlanta Hawks, DeMar DeRozan’s re-signing with the Toronto Raptors, Luol Deng’s signing with the Los Angeles Lakers and Jamal Crawford’s signing with the Los Angeles Clippers.

This was the start of ‘Frenemy’ relation between Wojnarowski and Charania. In 2017, Charania broke signings by Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap. Since then, it was no looking back for him, and he became among the top contenders of the Sports news and joined ‘Athletic.’ He was the first one to report about Rudy Gobert getting Covid-19, which eventually led to the suspension of 2019-2020 NBA season.
