The Golden State Warriors are going through one of the worst phases since the Steve Kerr era began. The recent bad play has got the whole basketball world talking. Especially when analysts point out what exactly seems to be the problem.

Former NBA champion and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins was speaking about the Warriors on NBA Today on ESPN. During the discussion about the state of the Warriors with host Malika Andrews, Brian Windhorst, Chiney Ogwumike, and Michael Wilbon, Perkins laid out what he actually felt was the reason for the Warriors’ horrific run. He said;

Steve Kerr is getting exposed.....The spirit and energy comes from the coach. The Warriors are playing with a lack of effort, no fight whatsoever, that is a reflection of your coach."

Perkins used the example of a church to explain why the coach is the most important part of the team’s confidence.

Kendrick Perkins has been a part of 5 NBA Finals. He insists it comes down to what the coach instills in the players. He was speaking from his experience in those NBA Finals with different coaches. Perkins talks about what the coach resonates with during practice and in the film room translates to how they play on the floor.

He also believes the low-quality play from Stephen Curry has been a direct result of the way Steve Kerr is coaching the superstar. He did not agree with the opinion of the other guests that the lack of Draymond Green in the lineup has impacted Curry’s play.

The Warriors and their worst season during Steve Kerr’s era

The Golden State Warriors are currently 17-20 and 12th place in the highly competitive Western Conference. This has been technically the worst start to a season in the Steve Kerr era. The previous losing season they had was during the 2019-20 season. That was mostly due to long-term injuries to Curry and Klay Thompson.

The 36-point home loss they suffered to the New Orleans Pelicans yesterday was the worst in the Kerr era. Analysts have pointed out inconsistent play from the aging superstars, a lack of production from the bench, and overall a lack of bite.

Perkins has been critical of how the Warriors have looked all season. He has also been adamant that the Warriors dynasty is over. But it is the first time he has pointed the finger at Steve Kerr.
