Kendrick Perkins is back in the NBA spotlight thanks to an intriguing take. Interestingly, Damian Lillard is on the receiving end this time. Big Perk weighed in on the saga concerning the point guard and the Portland Trail Blazers. The former NBA player turned analyst addressed the turmoil surrounding Lillard’s uncertain future in Portland, questioning his desire to win a championship.
In a recent episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” Kendrick Perkins said, “I don’t know if championships matter to him like it mattered to us. I want to see him on the big stage. I believe on his mind, he’s wishful thinking right now when it comes down to him being able to contending for a title in Portland. And, draw the necessary pieces to help him compete. It is just not gonna happen.”
Lillard has been the knight in shining armor for the Blazers for all seasons he has been in Rip City. However, the management has season and again failed to surround him with the right pieces. For all his heroics and elephantine contributions, he had warranted to demand more from the team that drafted him; however, the lone wolf has marched unescorted.
With the Blazers stuck in a rut, past seasons have seen Lillard being a consistent presence in the rumor mill. However, all the drama surrounding the guard’s future has frustrated fans and even Perkins it seems.

Like most basketball fans on the internet, even Kendrick Perkins is fed up with all the coverage Damian Lillard and his uncertain future with the Portland Trail Blazers are eating. In the same episode, Perkins called out Dame for trolling the fans with all the unending drama. The former player believes the superstar is just lighting up the table and like every other offseason, would end up as a Blazer.
Perkins said, “Since last week I have been tired of talking about it. We have been talking about Damian Lillard and him gonna get traded for the last three or four years. At this point, I am starting to think Dame is trolling. He is wanting attention and we are giving him too much attention. He wants to be in Portland… I am tired of talking about it.”
The rumor mill has been churning as the offseason begins. While Big Perk feels it’s all a publicity hoax by Lillard, recent reports indicate differently. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Lillard and the Blazers’ front office will meet this week to discuss the team’s future. If Lillard feels like the Blazers aren’t putting him in a position to win, he has “serious interest” in a trade to the Miami Heat.
It’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for Lillard and the Blazers. Will he stay put or finally get tired of his enthusiasm being met with indifference and hit the exit doors? Only time will tell.
