“Will find himself out of the league next year” Kendrick Perkins calls out Russell Westbrook for failing to own up to accountability
Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins
Russell Westbrook was one of the three members of the Los Angeles Lakers core that agreed to do whatever it takes to help the franchise rise to the top once again. This is currently being tested out by the coaching staff and Darvin Ham who has repeatedly expressed his confidence in the 9x All-Star, that he will be a pivotal figure on the roster.
The point guard who was supposed to come off the bench during opening night started the game instead. Experts are starting to believe that his ego is coming in the way of Coach Ham’s plans. It is speculated that Russ is refusing to fulfill his promise to Ham of potentially coming off the bench for the Lakers this season.
Kendrick Perkins predicts Russell Westbrook’s future in the NBA
Kendrick Perkins seemed extremely frustrated at Russell Westbrook’s excuse for starting the opener against the Golden State Warriors. The point guard who wound up getting injured during their preseason game against the Sacramento Kings said that he was not accustomed to coming off the bench and that he was not entirely “warmed up” which caused the incident.
Perk told ESPN, “Don’t come giving me that excuse about ‘I’ve been having the same routine for 14 years and all of a sudden, I tweak my hamstring then I’m available two, three days later for opening night. Russell Westbrook has to start looking at himself in the mirror and be accountable for his actions. Otherwise, he will find himself out of the league next year.”
This statement from Russ only came up after a reporter questioned him about it following the Lakers’ loss to the Warriors. Besides the strange change of plans, Mr. Triple-Double had a great game being a third option on the squad recording 19 points and 11 rebounds. However, his percentages from beyond the arc need to improve as the Lakers have shown great struggle in that aspect.
Russell Westbrook has almost always started for the last 14 years of his professional career. Obviously being a third superstar paired alongside arguably the greatest player of all time, LeBron James, has its own limitations and these are things Russ will have to adjust to. His presence in the starting lineup may not be of much use as scoring 18 or 19 points per game coming off the bench would.
