Trae Young had a slow but sure impact on the league on his arrival. His initial season began with him struggling to find a way to explode on offense but he eventually found his footing. He became a cold blooded killer for the Atlanta Hawks and quickly helped them rise from thw ashes.
The former 5th overall pick of the 2018 draft was not even supposed to be in Atlanta. The franchise made a draft night trade with the Dallas Mavericks swapping Luka Doncic for him. Although initially people felt that the Hawks lost that trade, Trae’s 29.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game sophomore proved them all wrong.
NBA releases Christmas Day lineup and snubs the Hawks
The Christmas Day lineups were released a couple of days a go. As usual, fans get to watch the league’s best teams compete on the 25th of December and this year’s lineup features some of the top guns out their. We will get to see the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics in action.
Joel Embiid who led the league in scoring will also fight with the Philadelphia 76ers and Ja Morant will possibly make an dominant appearance with the Memphis Grizzlies. One team which was excluded from the lineup was the Hawks. They along with Trae Young have had a very successful two years and are arguably one of the best underdog performers as well.
Kendrick Perkins defends Hawks and Trae Young over Christmas Day snub
Kendrick Perkins has been a close supporter of Trae Young and his roster over the last few years. He commented on the snub saying, “The Atlanta Hawks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, and let me start with the Atlanta Hawks. When it comes down to Christmas Day games, not only do you want to see good or great teams, but you want to see great players.”
“Trae Young is the most disrespected player in the NBA. When it comes down to a guy that is box office, that never disappoints you, a guy that can put up 50-piece spicy on you at by given time, a player that actually led the league in total points and total assists last year.”
