The NBA was shocked by Kevin Durant‘s latest request for a trade, but not everyone believes it to be true. Kendrick Perkins, an NBA analyst for ESPN and Durant’s former teammate, is the one who thinks that Kd’s demand is really a trick. Despite submitting a trade request to the Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai many days prior, neither Durant nor Kyrie Irving have been moved, and it could be some time before they are. Some are beginning to realise that this tale may drag on for weeks or perhaps months before we see a conclusion, given the almost nonexistent demand for Irving and the record-high cost of Durant’s services.
Durant unexpectedly requested a trade once Irving decided to exercise his right to do so and sign his deal with the Nets. He supposedly demanded a move because he was “disillusioned” by Brooklyn’s poor season and their treatment of Irving. Even though there is no concrete evidence of Durant’s motivations, it is odd that he submitted his trade request hours after Kyrie chose to accept his offer. There are almost no offers on the table that the Nets are willing to take now that both players are on the market.

Kevin Durant just completed his third season with the Nets, averaging 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists in 55 games. Durant joined the team in a sign-and-trade deal with the Golden State Warriors prior to the 2019–20 season. Durant has a 194 million contract with Brooklyn until the 2025–2026 season according to an extension he signed with them last offseason. Out of the University of Texas, Durant was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft. Durant is a two-time NBA champion and has won two MVP awards in the Finals. He has been chosen for 12 All-Star games, 10 All-NBA teams, and one regular season MVP.
Following Kyrie Irving’s decision to exercise his player option with the Nets for the 2022–2023 season, Charania and Wojnarowski reported that Durant has made a trade request. Before deciding to exercise his $37 million player option, Irving appeared to be leaving the team. However, Wojnarowski claims that Irving and Durant “want to continue to play together,” just not in Brooklyn. Irving was forced to sit out home games last season because he refused to be vaccinated and would frequently skip games for personal reasons. This all led to a rift between the star duo and the organization which will result in the possible departure of KD and Kyrie.

Kendrick Perkins claims that all of this is nothing but a ploy.
NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins recently claimed on ESPN that he is not persuaded that Durant wants to be traded. Perkins asserted that he thinks Kyrie Irving’s recent trade request may have been made to give him more “leverage.” He stated: “It makes zero sense to me that he wants to be traded at this point. … I think Kevin Durant is doing this as a scare tactic to help Kyrie Irving have leverage.”
Perkins’ assumption followed speculations that the Nets would reportedly keep Durant around until fall camp, waiting to see if the disappointed parties can come to an understanding agreement. After all, Durant has four years left on his contract, so Brooklyn has little motivation to move quickly unless its asking price is fulfilled. Basketball fans all over the world appear to be waiting impatiently for the outcome of the most recent conflict between Durant and the Nets. Depending on the club to which Durant is sent if he is traded, it might alter the league’s overall result.
