“Since he has left LeBron, he’s not been the same” Kendrick Perkins drops ultimate truth bomb on Kyrie Irving
Kendrick Perkins talks about post Cavaliers Kyrie Irving
With Kyrie Irving once being caught up in the trade mill after a failed Brooklyn Nets stint alongside Kevin Durant, it seems like the time is up for this spoken off pair. Upon which Irving’s former teammate Kendrick Perkins had some interesting views.
Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving’s situation has reached a complicated end yet again, approaching off-season. The franchise is not accepting the MAX contract or longer duration contract, and the player holds on to the long-term commitment or supermax contract. Well when both agree to disagree on everything, they must part ways, as simple as that. But in the case of Kyrie Irving – it is not that simple. Considering the Player’s salary, demand, and recent attitude towards the game; very few teams are interested in trading for the 30-year old Point guard, And Even though teams are willing to include Kyrie in the team, they don’t have any returnable assets that Brooklyn Nets would love to have. Though the talented star is asking for a “fictitious” contract, Kendrick Perkins contradicts Kyrie’s claims itself.
As per the former Cavs star – Kyrie Irving has not been the Kyrie Irving that we’ve seen in a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, since he left LeBron James. Irving left Cavs after the end of the 2017 NBA Finals and moved to 2 different franchises in the last 5 seasons.
Kyrie Irving lost “Mojo” after he left LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers?
Duke prodigy Kyrie Irving lived up to the hype when he entered the league in 2011. Selected as 1st overall pick by the struggling Cavaliers team, Kyrie brought some smiles to the faces of Cavs Fans – who were mulling over LeBron’s departure. His efficient gameplay won him the Rookie of the year award and quickly became the franchise player for the Cavs.
Soon after the addition of LeBron James and Kevin Love, handed a major upgrade to the Cleveland-based team, as they won 4 straight conference championships. And team even went ahead to beat one of the dominating teams of the decade – the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, claiming the franchise’s first ever major trophy.
But he left the Cavs on a high note – which was heavily criticized by many. He went to conference Rivals Boston Celtics for 2 seasons, but couldn’t repeat the results following his knee injury. The injury limited his game time, as he moved to Brooklyn Nets to join the newly formed super team with 2-time NBA Champion Kevin Durant.
But rather than his impressive gameplay; injuries, Covid vaccination situation, and said internal feud with James Harden news surrounded 30years old star. He played just 103 regular-season games for the Nets averaging career-best 27 points.
In reality, his 3-point shooting, free-throw conversion, and minutes per game were on the rise; his failure to win games for the team was more of a conversational topic. Interestingly many considered the Nets as a prime title contender last season’s NBA Championship only because of the Kyrie-KD pair, but then his team was swept aside by the eventual 2022 NBA Finalist Boston Celtics in 1st round.
This was seen as an ultimate failure on Kyrie’s part, although it was not 100% his fault. And Perkins’ claim can’t be completely denied; it was a bit harsh on Kyrie – who did his best while on the court. Now that Kyrie Irving and Brooklyn Nets are at crossroads in the new contract negotiations, many are looking forward to seeing the situation resolved earliest possible.
