“No matter how much they tried to fake it, there was no BROTHERHOOD” Kendrick Perkins gets brutally honest on Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant’s relationship

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins

Both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are first-ballot Hall of Famers and NBA legends. Westbrook and Durant were both members of the Oklahoma City Thunder at one point, and they even advanced to the Finals together and the duo, nevertheless, was unable to win a title. Almost all basketball fans were furious when KD chose to abandon Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder a few years ago. Most people believed that when Durant decided to go with the Golden State Warriors rather than remaining in OKC, he was abandoning his friendship.

At the same time as Durant and Westbrook, Kendrick Perkins was a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The famous duo’s lack of chemistry was recently highlighted by him, who claimed that “their continuity wasn’t there” and that “their brotherhood never truly was a brotherhood.”

The bizarre relationship of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant

Ten years ago, after two games in Oklahoma City, the NBA Finals left for Miami. The biggest NBA showcase was supposed to come to Oklahoma City in a week, but it did not, not for another 10 years. We anticipated that OKC fans would come to expect the NBA’s best entertainment. James Harden, Serge Ibaka were 22 and Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant were all 23 years old. Durant departed along the road, Harden and Ibaka were traded, and eventually they were all gone.

The desire to succeed ultimately served as KD’s driving force. Along with Stephen Curry and company, he also accomplished this with the Warriors, helping them win two championships. The Thunder and Westbrook, in Durant’s opinion, prevented him from achieving this. One of the most talented teams to never win a championship together was the Thunder basketball team during that time period. They all went their own ways, with Durant ultimately proving to be the only one of them  to have won a championship thus far in their professional career.

Kendrick Perkins on the Westbrook-Durant saga.

Kendrick Perkins, a former big man for OKC, has recently opened up about the Thunder’s off court relationships. The relationship between Durant and Westbrook, according to the ESPN analyst, was a major factor in the team’s failure to be successful. It appears that they were never fully in sync. “Their continuity wasn’t there, no matter how much they tried to fake it to the public, their brotherhood, it never was a brotherhood” he said on the JJ Redick’s “The Old Man & the Three podcast”. He also stated: “You had KD who as just by himself. He didn’t even hang with the other guys.”

Perkins remained with the Thunder up until his 2015 trade to Cleveland. At that moment, he had passed his prime and was unable to assist in getting Oklahoma City across the finish line. When it comes to winning a championship, team chemistry is crucial. If Kendrick Perkins is right and the two weren’t very close, perhaps it played a role in their inability to succeed. Having said that, it is evident that Kevin Durant still has respect for Russell Westbrook since he has defended him from criticism on several times in the past.
