Darvin Ham and the Los Angeles Lakers coaching staff are desperately attempting to solve the Russell Westbrook enigma. Ham was previously convinced he’d be a great fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but has recently changed his mind. According to ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, the Lakers and Westbrook will eventually work together “The month of Neveruary. They would never figure it out. The Lakers will never figure it out when it comes down to the Russell Westbrook situation, whether that’s bringing him off the bench to whatever the case may be.
“It’s just not going to work with Russ. I think the relationship is pretty much over. Darvin Ham is trying his best, but at the end of the day, this Lakers roster, the way that it’s constructed, Russell Westbrook is not gonna be in full acceptance of this sixth-man role for the Lakers.” The Los Angeles Lakers’ 2022 preseason, like the 2021-22 NBA season, was a disaster. They went 1-5 in the preseason, getting blown out by the Kings by 47 points in their final game. It was the second time the Kings had blown out the Lakers, as Sacramento had won the first meeting by a 30-point margin.

According to reports, the Lakers will continue to look into bringing Russell Westbrook off the bench during the regular season, which will undoubtedly annoy him. Russ can probably handle coming off the bench once during the preseason, but not when the games matter. When asked when the two sides would figure things out, Kendrick Perkins said they would never figure it out.

Westbrook, as Perkins says, will not accept it, and things could get very messy behind the scenes, and possibly even in public, because Russ wears his emotions on his sleeve. Things appeared to be under control until Westbrook was benched, and it will be interesting to see what happens with Russ when he returns from injury.
