“You take his brain and put in a bird…” Kendrick Perkins RUTHLESSLY criticizes Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla after 20-game win streak breaks
Boston Celtics did not adjust their game plan, relying on three-point shooting, Perkins says it is the coach's fault.

The league-leading Boston Celtics were on a 20-game winning streak at home. That streak has officially come to an end. The first home loss of the season for the Celtics came from the hands of current NBA Champions, the Denver Nuggets who won 102-100. And this led a former Celtic to lose his mind.
NBA Countdown on ESPN host Malika Andrews asked former Boston Celtics star Kendrick Perkins about his opinion on the loss. He started off by saying;
You have the other Joe Mazulla, who just stands over there,..... you take his brain out and put it in a bird, the bird is going to start flying backward.Kendrick Perkins said
Perkins alludes his sarcasm to how Celtics head coach Joe Mazulla did not make adjustments to their game plan to counter the defending champions. Perkins says Mazulla’s method is to make more three-pointers than the opposition. Other than that, as per Perkins, Mazulla does not have a clue how to win.
Richard Jefferson mentioned that the Celtics’ two wing players, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown hardly drove to the basket. They had a total of 5 free-throw attempts. Jefferson alluded that had the two physically strong wings driven more to the basket, the result would have been different. This is because the Nuggets do not have proven shot blockers. Unlike the Celtics, the Nuggets do not have players who can stop opposition players from attacking the paint.
Over-reliance on three-point shooting was the undoing for the Celtics. Chiney Ogwumike added that the margin for error on three-point shooting is so little that banking on that is not the way to go, especially when playoffs come.
How the Boston Celtics fared against the defending champions?
The Boston Celtics went into battle today against the reigning champions. This was to be the first true test for the league leaders. After all, the Nuggets had the exact same starting five as their championship-winning game. The new-look Celtics were touted as the favorites going into this game. However, they were given a lesson in game management.
The Boston Celtics did not double-team two-time MVP Nikola Jokic. Jokic made them pay for their mistake finishing with 34 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists. Jamal Murray torched the elite wing defenders of the Celtics with 35 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The Celtics and their second-best defense were not enough.
The Celtics play the game in one method. No adjustments were made throughout the game. The Nuggets improvised as the game flowed. So it was natural for Perkins to go after Mazulla.
