“It’s great for the league,” Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving defend trade requests from players
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving disagreed with Adam Silver's statements on trade requests, saying they are beneficial to the league.
Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving constituted the biggest trade news in the NBA this season. When both the former Brooklyn Nets superstars were asked if their respective trades were good or bad for the league, both the stars opined that such big trades eventually benefits the league. As per Durant, the big trades bring more attention to the league. Whereas, according to Irving, the trade requests are a sign of player empowerment.
Since the NBA trade deadline, there has been a lot of talk concerning the consequences of these trades. Even Adam Silver recently stated in an interview that players requesting trades is a bad thing. Durant, on the other hand, had a completely different viewpoint. “I don’t think it’s bad for the league,” he said Saturday during his All-Star press conference. “It’s bringing more eyes to the league, more people are more excited…just brings more attention to the league and that’s really what makes the money in, when you get more attention. So, I think it’s great for the league, to be honest,” said the newest Phoenix Suns star.
Irving believes that a player’s ability to request a trade demonstrates the player’s much-needed empowerment. For the crafty point guard, players being able to decide on trade only shows that they have control over their fate. “It’s a bad situation,” Irving said. “Why doesn’t anyone have the ability to ask for trades? That’s my question. When did it become terrible to make great business decisions for yourself and your happiness and peace of mind?,” he added

Adam Silver speaks on players’ trade requests after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving trade
Before Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver discussed the players asking for trades and its implications on the league as a whole. Silver was straightforward in his assessment, stating such trade demands are detrimental to the league. “Player trade demands are a bad thing. We don’t want them to happen, and we’ve got to focus on that and make sure that everyone is honoring their agreements.” Fair to say such trade requests are nothing new to the league.
Furthermore, Irving addressed an intriguing subject that players have regularly dealt with, resulting in a trade. He stated that not every player gets along with their employer, which might ruin their experience. In that case, demanding a trade is not wrong. “Not every employer you’re going to get along with, so if you have the chance to go somewhere else and you’re doing it legally, I don’t think there’s a problem with it,” the Dallas Mavericks star said.
