“Someone is getting traded this week” Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving’s trade rumors pick pace after Sean Marks, Masai Ujiri, Rob Pelinka’s meet

Various Kyrie Irving trade speculations have surfaced over the last week, the most of which have linked him, Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks, and that one and only team that seems to be interested: the Los Angeles Lakers. After dealing with Kyrie Irving for the previous three seasons and now having to deal with the entire Kevin Durant scenario, Sean Marks is all too aware of this. All of this is taking place at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where fans yelled for general manager Rob Pelinka to trade his own unhappy point guard for Brooklyn’s as Russell Westbrook and LeBron James watched from opposing ends of the stadium on Friday night.

Additionally, the Summer League provides general managers with a chance to network with executives from other organisations while also scouting players. In the midst of all the Durant and Irving trade speculations involving the Brooklyn Nets, Marks was seen speaking with Masai Ujiri of the Toronto Raptors and Rob Pelinka of the Los Angeles Lakers. Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA expert for ESPN, was also spotted in the group as an extra.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant- What could have been?

The Brooklyn Nets were enjoying as a team about this time three years ago after signing both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in 2019 free agency, suddenly upgrading the organisation, which has never won a championship, to a legitimate title contender in the Eastern Conference. Three years later, the Nets are still without a championship, and everything is falling apart for them. At the likelihood that Durant’s desire for a trade is approved, Kyrie will almost certainly accompany him out of Brooklyn. Given that the NBA continues to be highly uncertain about the future of both All-Star players, a deal involving Durant or Irving might happen at any time.

KD and Kyrie’s three-year stint with the Nets would come to a depressing end if they are traded. Only one postseason series was won by Brooklyn during his spell with the franchise. Even though he missed the first season of his contract due to an Achilles tear, the Durant-Irving combo was still expected to lead Brooklyn to a championship. Amazingly, throughout their time with the Nets, Durant and Irving combined for just 58 of 247 games. The two were only on the court together sometimes because to their injuries and Irving’s unwillingness to get the COVID-19 vaccination.

The fact that Rob Pelinka and Sean Marks were seen talking in-person next to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN during Saturday’s games is noteworthy in light of Woj’s claim that “the Nets and Lakers are really not engaged right now on Kyrie Irving” during Friday’s broadcast. It appeared like Marks, Ujiri, and Pelinka were having pleasant conversations because they were all observed laughing widely. As opposed to high-ranking executives working out a few blockbuster trades, this seems more like casual conversation.

Marks would probably be unhappy if Durant and Irving left, but he could also be pleased to avoid the difficulties the two have likely caused him during their spell together. After taking over as GM in 2016, he had established a dynamic young squad in Brooklyn, but that club was decimated in order to get Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden. Depending on how things turn out going forward, he could get to start the process all over again.
