Kevin Durant is on his fourth team, in an illustrious NBA career. Now with the Phoenix Suns, he was ready to make a trip to his former home in Brooklyn. Before the visit, reports came in that the Nets were preparing a tribute video for him. Durant publicly asked them not to do so. But the Brooklyn Nets did not listen to their former superstar and broadcasted their tribute video on the center screen. Durant and basketball fans were not amused by the Nets gesture.

The tribute video showed Durant in the Black and White colors. They showcased some of his notable feats as a Nets star, such as when he surpassed 25,000 points. The clip had the narrator mentioning Durant as one of the best scorers to touch a basketball. The clip finished with Durant being named to the NBA’s 75 Greatest Players of All Time list. The cameras then panned onto Durant himself, who did not seem impressed.

Kevin Durant played for the Brooklyn Nets for two and a half seasons. Even though he joined in 2019, he could not play that season as he was recovering from his Achilles tendon injury. In those years, Durant made the Nets relevant. The Nets made the playoffs both times Durant with superstar Kyrie Irving also helping the cause.

According to Durant, a tribute video was not apt. Durant felt the goals were not met during his time in the Black and White colors. During his time with the Nets, Durant led a star-studded team. However, their goal of winning championships did not pan out. Injuries and off-court issues mired the Nets, resulting in a frustrated Durant putting in a trade request before the start of last season.

Kevin Durant faced the Nets for the first time at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center since leaving them last season in a midseason trade. Basketball fans had a theory after the Nets showcased the tribute video. They feel the Nets wanted to spite their former superstar.
