“Reuniting…but not for Brooklyn Nets” Kevin Durant joins forces with James Harden once again because of Travis Scott
James Harden and Kevin Durant at OKC
Throughout their NBA careers, Kevin Durant and James Harden have been a part of a variety of Big 3s, but their most recent pairing may be their most unusual to date. For Travis Scott‘s solo performance at the O2 Arena on Saturday, the friends and former teammates reunited in London for the first time since the horrific events at the Astroworld festival in Houston in November. The two celebrities, who were also teammates when playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, were spotted at the Travis Scott show. Backstage, they joined Scott to celebrate, with Durant even popping the champagne for the well-known rapper.
Harden and Durant have no bad feelings against one another despite their bitter breakup on the floor. Recent video footage even suggests that the two could still be buddies. Following the performance, they were seen having a moment of quiet communion while receiving shouts and applause. Even if their second relationship in Brooklyn came to a pretty unfortunate conclusion, it is still good to watch James Harden and Kevin Durant working together again as Harden sought a trade and was ultimately sent to the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons this past season.
The disgruntled relationship of James Harden and Kevin Durant
KD was the Beard’s teammate when he first began his professional career. They shared a squad in OKC where they played, and they were almost a complete unit. Before that could happen, James Harden relocated to Houston in search of a greater role. Harden tried to convince him to join Houston so they could play together in 2016, but Durant didn’t even show up for a team meeting making their friendship strained as a result. He was traded to the Brooklyn Nets and teamed up with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to make things right because things in Houston weren’t going as planned. Unfortunately, Harden’s stint with the Nets wasn’t spectacular either.
Although there is little information regarding their connection before they were teammates with the Nets, we could see things turn out differently this time. Given KD’s personality, it seemed expected that the two would have a nasty relationship once he left and although it doesn’t appear like Harden’s decision to practically give up on Durant and the Nets had an impact on their friendship. The majority of people must have also offended KD permanently since Harden departed Brooklyn to join the Philadelphia 76ers in the midst of the 2022–23 season as soon as he had the chance to get away from Kyrie Irving.
The ex-Nets and Thunder teammates’ get-together on Saturday may not result in another on-court reunion, but it’s wonderful to see the former MVPs seem to be on good terms after rumors of a possible split between the two surfaced at the conclusion of Harden’s time in Brooklyn. Following their individual decisions over the future of their careers in recent months, each superstars’ 2022 offseason has been unpredictable. NBA players frequently hang out, so it is not unusual to see two former teammates having a good time in London.
Whatever your opinion of the events surrounding that incident, Harden and Durant appear to have moved on. There is really no need for them to retain any bad thoughts toward one another because James is in Philadelphia and KD is still trying to go somewhere new. Just the fact that James Harden and Kevin Durant are still friends and hanging out after everything is unexpected. Durant isn’t dwelling on it too much as he tries to enjoy the rest of the offseason. It’s unclear what will happen to him, whether he stays or gets moved.
