Tyrese Haliburton, a standout for the Indiana Pacers, won over a few more admirers on Friday night with a 43-point performance in a 111-108 victory over the Miami Heat. To the point where even Kevin Durant felt compelled to join others in hyping Haliburton for his standout performance against the Miami Heat.

Kevin Durant reacting to an Instagram reel trolled New York Knicks analyst and former NBA player Wally Szczerbiak for his initial comments on the Pacers’ star being a “wannabe All-Star.” Following Haliburton’s valiant efforts against the Heat, KD felt compelled to criticize Szczerbiak for his slander. “Come look at this Wally,” Durant wrote in his comment on one of Haliburton’s highlight videos from Friday night.

He later tweeted his admission that Haliburton appeared to be an All-Star. Wally Szczerbiak is obviously regretting hitting Haliburton at this moment. Szczerbiak actually made the remarks at the time to support Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle as All-Stars; given the Knicks’ promising start, one of them will likely be selected as well.

The best choice the Pacers have made in a while was acquiring Haliburton through trade from the Sacramento Kings earlier this year, but selecting Bennedict Mathurin from the NBA Draft came in a close second. Mathurin has consistently shown that he has what it takes to be an absolute all-star. Right in his rookie year he is averaging 17.2 points a game and scoring crucial baskets at times of need.

Tyrese Haliburton’s career-high 20.0 points per game is a major factor in the Indiana Pacers’ success. Along with 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 steals, he also averages 10.6 assists per game. With him and Mathurin together, the Pacers have a promising future. Mathurin is also vying for Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year awards.

After trading Domantas Sabonis last season, the Pacers were allegedly in full rebuild mode. The appearance of Haliburton has, in some manner, successfully thwarted that strategy. They now possess a genuine franchise player who can elevate them to a perennial contender in the loaded Eastern Conference.
