Kevin Durant recently became the third basketball player in HISTORY to sign a lifetime deal with Nike. This news comes in after Durant confirmed the signing on Twitter. Durant became the third player, alongside Michael Jordan and LeBron James, to have lifetime deals with the brand. He also specifically pointed out that it was an “honor” to be in a rare company. Durant’s original endorsement deal with Nike dates back to the year 2007.

Durant has come a long way from being a rookie for the Oklahoma City Thunder when he signed the deal. Since then, the player has gone on to play for multiple teams, winning two championships with the Golden State Warriors. Durant is already a 13-time All-Star in his 15th season in the league. He has now led the Phoenix Suns to Round 2 of the playoffs, where they face off against the Denver Nuggets.

We look forward to continuing to serve the next generation of athletes together.”

Since the year 2007, when Durant signed an endorsement deal with Nike, they’ve released 15 signature shoes in his name. KD16, the 16th edition of the signature shoes, is also on the way and is highly anticipated by the fans. Nike’s deal with Durant has stayed firm despite the “controversial” career of the player. It stayed strong when Durant left the Thunder, when he was injured, or even during his controversial trade from the Nets.

Durant’s philanthropic aspirations for the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation will now see fruition after this deal was signed. This deal only adds to the player’s greatness, no matter how the playoffs go or what transpires next in Durant’s career. It’ll be interesting to see what Nike and Durant now have in store for the fans.
