Kevin Durant feels that the current Oklahoma City Thunder team is more suited to the modern NBA than the trio of Harden, Westbrook and himself.

Kevin Durant SHOCKINGLY claims he prefers Thunder’s current team to Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka core

Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns beat the Oklahoma City Thunder last night, and KD had some interesting comments on the current shape of OKC. “They got three or four guys 6-7, 6-8 that can handle the ball. I wish I would’ve had that,” said Durant after dropping 35 on the Thunder in a Suns win. KD is known for his left-field takes, but this one surprised everyone as Durant had Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Serge Ibaka on his roster.

KD and Ibaka are over 6’7, while Harden and Russ are shorter, but both ended up being future MVPs. The 2011-2014 OKC core was one of the most entertaining in the NBA, making the Finals in 2012. Harden won 6th man of the year, and KD won MVP in 2014. Despite KD only mentioning that he wishes his team was taller, it is surprising he feels anything needed to be added to that team as they were dominant as ever, even after Harden left.

The young OKC core, which KD is seemingly jealous of, consists of Josh Giddey (6,8), Chet Holmgren (7’0), and Aleksej Pokusevski (7’0). However, Holmgren and Pokusevski have been injured this season, with a 6’5 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way for them. OKC has been a surprise team this season in the Western Conference, being as high as the 6th seed when nobody even expected them to make the play-ins.

KD and the Suns notched up their 43rd win of the season to put them 2.5 games ahead of the 5th-seeded Clippers. KD dropped a masterful 35 points in his third game back from an ankle injury. The Slim Reaper shot 62% from the field in an effortless display against the Thunder. Despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 39 points, the Suns’ offensive prowess was too much for OKC.

The Phoenix Suns are in a good place in the Western Conference with just four games left and a sizeable gap from the Clippers. The Suns have also won their last five games, giving them much-needed momentum heading into the NBA playoffs, which start on April 15th. With the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors having such a tight race for the 5th seed, only time will tell who KD faces in the first round.

A matchup against Golden State would be a bittersweet one for KD as his only championships were with them, but all the criticism he gets stems from the fact that he has never won without Stephen Curry. KD getting a chance to eliminate Curry from the playoffs would mean a huge deal to his legacy and vice versa. However, the Clippers are no team to sleep on in a conference as open as this, as anyone can take over in the playoffs.
