Kevin Durant had finally made up his mind to stay with the Brooklyn Nets and run it back. The player had signed a $198 million four-year extension with the Nets in May 2022 just a month before requesting for a trade. The reasons behind this suspicious event have not been disclosed but all signs hint that there were underlying issues that were causing the major scene.
This agreement would mean Kyrie Irving will play alongside KD and build the chemistry they failed to last season. This happened mainly because of Irving’s absence that put the team in a very vulnerable position. The former 2016 NBA Champion was not allowed to play due to his vaccination stance but the league eventually broke the rule for the benefit of the team.

The Nets were one of the top contenders for the title during the initially part of the 2021-22 Season. Of course, the roster still had James Harden who was their top facilitator at the time. He averaged a consistent 23.4 points, 10.5 assists, and 8.2 rebounds with the team since he joined. Last season, he averaged 22.4 points, 10.2 assists, and 8 assists helping Kevin Durant to lead the team to the top of the Eastern Conference.
Soon tension began to flare up within the team as Kyrie’s return was highly doubtful. Harden had injured himself in the mix which further took a hit on their record and ability to play at a high level. Looking at these issues, the Beard forced a trade to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Ben Simmons and Seth Curry. This left the Slim Reaper by himself and seemed to have created unnecessary tension between him and Harden as well.
Both teams had a disappointing end to their season. The 76ers had one of the best odds at winning but Joel Embiid fell through with an injury. James’ 21 points, 10.5 assists, and 7.1 rebounds did not help either. The Nets were swept in the first round as we know it.
During the height of trade discussions, Kevin Durant and Harden were spotted training together on several occasions. At one point, KD was severely considering a reunion with his former teammate and both their agents had also interacted with each other. But now, it seems like it was all just to clear the murky air as images of the players spending time together off the court had surfaced.
