“Don’t f*ck with me” Kevin Durant sued his own accountant for over $600,000 for incompetency

Kevin Durant with the Thunder in 2014

During his time with the OKC Thunder, Kevin Durant allegedly sued his own accountant for $600,000 over what the star NBA player said were errors on his taxes. Attorneys for Durant claimed in the 2014 federal lawsuit that Joel Lynn Elliott, an accountant based in California, had improperly claimed some personal costs as company expenses on Durant’s tax filings. Personal transport and a personal chef were included in the costs. According to the lawsuit, Elliott handled Durant’s personal taxes as well as those for his business, K. Durant Enterprises, between 2007 and 2011. And per the lawsuit, Durant would have had to make tax amendments, pay back taxes, and perhaps even face penalties.

It was revealed after a week that Durant had dropped his federal case against his former accountant for $600,000. It was  nly mentioned that Durant and his business, K. Durant Enterprises LLC, had agreed to drop the complaint is stated in the two-page document dated 2014. No mention of a settlement was made in the petition. Calls to the offices of Durant and Elliott’s lawyers had went unanswered at the time of the incident.

Kevin Durant’s time with the Thunder.

Kevin Durant just had to play one season at the University of Texas to demonstrate that he was NBA ready. Durant was poised to rule the NBA at the age of 19 when the Seattle SuperSonics selected him with the No. 2 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. The Seattle SuperSonics relocated and adopted the Oklahoma City Thunder name during the 2008 offseason. When Russell Westbrook was selected by the Thunder with the fourth overall choice in the 2008 NBA Draft, it became obvious that they had selected their two superstars of the future.

The Miami Heat, who had fallen in the Finals in their first year of the new “Big 3” era, met the Thunder in the championship series when the Thunder made their return to the playoffs in 2012 as the No. 2 seed in the West. Although Durant scored 30.6 points per game on average alongside a young Russell Westbrook and James Harden, LeBron James and company triumphed, and the Thunder was defeated in five games.

Kevin Durant played his sixth season in the league in 2013–14. He had already been selected for several All-Star and All-NBA teams. But now that he had shown himself to be a star, Durant needed to step up his performance and become a league superstar. Durant earned his fourth scoring championship in 2014, averaging a career-high 32 points per game. He led the Thunder to a 59-win season, and on top of that, he averaged 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. KD led the Thunder to the Conference finals that season after a remarkable year. However, they ran against the San Antonio Spurs, who were simply too experienced for the young OKC squad.

According to the lawsuit, on the recommendation of his former agent, Kevin Durant employed Elliott to handle his taxes. From 2007 through 2011, Elliott handled both Durant’s personal taxes and taxes for his business, K. Durant Enterprises. According to the lawsuit, California-based Elliott had improperly claimed some personal costs as business expenses on Durant’s taxes. Durant claimed $200,000 for each of the three charges of professional negligence, breach of fiduciary responsibility, and contract violation.

In addition, KD sued his own accountant for a very incompetent reason. The player supposedly ended up in difficulty with the IRS as a result of the accountant’s apparent incompetence. It was also discovered that the claimed accountant had engaged in similar behavior in a far greater number of transactions, putting Durant in big trouble. At this point, we’re just relieved that Kevin Durant has been able to get through this significant problem and is once again able to concentrate on his beloved sport.
