“How the f*ck did he do that?” Kevin Durant was frustrated with Ben Simmons after he left Nets hanging in do-or-die time
Ben Simmons and Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons have made their way back to the NBA headlines. KD is a regular name here since he requested a trade out of Brooklyn Nets a month ago. But reports claiming Ben Simmons to be the reason behind it have brought him back on the heated-up discussion table. He hasn’t suited up in an NBA game or even a professional basketball game since June 20, 2021. His last appearance was with the Philadelphia 76ers against the Atlanta Hawks in Game 7 of the second round(2021) where all the controversy and saga began. Initially, the blame was on Kyrie Irving for Kevin Durant to be on wheels but now things are more confusing as an NBA analyst added another story to it.
Recently, Ric Bucher, an NBA analyst for Fox Sports appeared on Colin Cowherds’ “The Herd” and revealed a Ben Simmons story where he rolled out when the team needed him the most. It was about Game 4 against the Boston Celtics where the Kevin Durant-led Nets got swept out. Talking about it Ric Bucher quoted: “They’re having a team chat before Game 4, thinking he’s going to play against the Celtics. From what I’m told, Ben just left the chat. They asked him “Are you going to play?”. Ben left the chat. Like he didn’t even answer the question, just left the chat. KD’s like ‘This is what I signed up for? This is who I’m playing with?’”
He didn’t reveal the source but the history Ben Simmons has it can be trusted. As he wasn’t also present on the bench during Game 4. But the situation the Australian guard was in is understandable. As he had a back surgery in the offseason too. But he should have at least replied to his mates and let them know about the situation he was in rather than just exiting the group. So Kevin Durant’s behavior is understandable and acceptable. So is him requesting a trade out. As Kevin Durant doesn’t want to waste any of his time and not be a champion.

Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons’ future with Brooklyn Nets
Kevin Durant is going to meet the Nets owner Joseph C. Tsai this week and there he will discuss his future and trade request. He is under a contract right now and hopefully, he stays. As Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons with some correct pieces around are a contender team and there’s no doubt about it. The Nets would also like that to happen as they are already on the losing end after they failed in the market multiple times and now have their future on the line with the superstars from the team being on wheels and wanting out.
