Former Boston Celtics teammates Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce brought the heat to YouTube’s Thursday night’s Trade Deadline special on All The Smoke Podcast, engaging in a spirited debate that captivated listeners.
While on All The Smoke Podcast, Garnett drew comparisons between Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and a young Michael Jordan, a statement that Pierce found disrespectful to the legendary “His Airness.” Despite Pierce’s objection, Garnett remained steadfast in his opinion.
Kevin Garnett said,
I’m putting my bread on the young fella. He like a young ’84 Michael Jordan. You see how he’s coming through the lane? If KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns) wasn’t on this team, he would average 30-something.
Pierce vehemently disagreed with Garnett’s effusive praise for Edwards, arguing that Garnett’s comparisons were excessive. In response, the former Timberwolves superstar clarified that he wasn’t equating Edwards to Jordan during the Bulls legend’s prime and that his comparison focused solely on explosiveness rather than overall gameplay.
Anthony Edwards is having a remarkable season with the Timberwolves, boasting averages of 25.9 points, 5.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. In comparison, during the 1984 season, Michael Jordan, at the same age of 21, posted averages of 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.
