“Just because they intend on keeping Kyrie Irving, doesn’t mean they will” Keyshawn Johnson clarifies possibility of Nets-Lakers swap taking place mid season
It was apparent all along that Kyrie Irving was set to play the upcoming season with the Brooklyn Nets, but it was Kevin Durant who wanted no part of it. Sources have revealed that KD believes the Nets cannot be saved other any circumstance. Over a month ago, he approached the Nets owner demanding to choose him over the coaching staff and front office.
Owner Joe Tsai obviously responded to this by claiming his support lies in the best interests of the Nets. As KD’s value is set a really high price, teams have no been able to match Brooklyn’s demands. The Boston Celtics and New Orleans Pelicans had the closest chances of finalising a package but both teams refused to comply to the Nets demands as well.

Keyshawn Johnson believes the Nets will still trade their duo as some point
The Nets recently closed all discussions pertaining to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant trade packages. The franchise stated that they “intend” on continuing with the championship experienced duo for another season. Keyshawn Johnson had a very interesting understanding of what the Nets meant with their statement.
He said, “I like the fact that the Nets said they ‘intend’ on keeping him [Irving], because I intend on taking over ESPN at some point from Jimmy Pitaro. It’s doesn’t mean it’s going to happen… doesn’t meant it’ll happen at all. I’m leaving myself avaliable for anything. Of course you intend of keeping him,… Kevin Durant, and Steve Nash… but that’s only an intent.”

Kevin Durant will exercise his $198 million contract in Brooklyn
Now that all trade discussions have ended, the Nets have to focus on suiting up healthy and fully loaded for the upcoming season. Their potential to become a championship contending team is very high considering the amount of offensive power both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving bring to the table. The Slim Reaper will have four-years left with the team as he is on contract with them worth $198 million.
Kyrie opted in for a one-year extension at $36.5 million. This obviously had KD possibly away from the “risk” factor of the team. But a healthy Ben Simmons who is a defensive player of the year caliber person, can uplift the team in thay aspect which is something they heavily lacked.
