RUMOR: 6″8 Klay Thompson open to sign with the Lakers during 2024 free agency

RUMOR: 6″8 Klay Thompson open to sign with the Lakers during 2024 free agency

Klay Thompson to the Los Angeles Lakers has been a rumor circulated for a long time now. It seems as though the window hasn’t been sealed shut just yet. Even though the 4x NBA Champion is fully engrossed with the Golden State Warriors, the league is a business after all and the possibility of him signing somewhere else during the 2024 free agency exists.

Sean Deveney has been following this potential signing for a while. According to him, a Conference executive admitted that Klay Thompson would consider leaving the Warriors for the Lakers in the future. KT’s father was an NBA player as well and served with the Lakers.

Deveney said, “You know, he grew up with his dad as a player, mostly for the Lakers, so they’re a team he could look to leave for. And he grew up near Portland, so the Blazers, there has been talk he wants to play for them. But really, he is kind of engrained in the Warriors now. He is such a part of that team and the culture… they love him. It would be hard to imagine him actually suiting up in another uniform.”

The thought of Klay Thompson to the Lakers has been proposed by several other individuals involved with the NBA. Most notably, Stephen A. Smith was pro Thompson to Lakers. LA could certainly use someone like him as they lack perimeter shooting and defense. Thompson is an elite player in those terms.

Klay Thompson went on a two-season hiatus after succumbing to two career-ending injuries. After making his return, the Warriors were already in a great place. He wasn’t in his best form on returning to the game but he contributed valuable minutes for the Dubs.

Recently, he admitted having desires of cracking the All-Star roster again before calling and end to his career. Klay was last named an All-Star back in 2019. He said that he also wanted to shoot for the stars and grab himself the ASG Most Valuable Player Award as well.

He has struggled to show output this season averaging a career-low in shooting percentages. He is putting 18.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 39.7% FGP per game. With these stats, it could be a little hard for the veteran to get back to where he once was. Only time and effort can solve this problem.
