“He’s the future of the franchise!” Klay Thompson sees Jonathan Kuminga becoming ‘best athlete in the NBA’

Klay Thompson calls Jonathan Kuminga the future of the Warriors franchise.

The Golden State Warriors played against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. It was an electric game as the 9th and 10th seeds in the Western Conference fought to secure their spot in the play-ins. The Warriors came out on top with the final score reading 128-121.

Despite having multiple veterans on the team, the young players of the Golden State are currently the biggest contributors to the wins. One of the names is the 7th overall draft pick from 2021 Jonathan Kuminga. The 21-year-old has been performing on both ends for the team this season. The fans and his teammates are in awe of his performance and have high praise for the player.

Jonathan's been incredible for us. He might be the best athlete in the NBA, just his ability to rise up and its combination with speed. He's the future of the franchise. And we need him to go where we wanna go this season.

Kuminga’s consistent great performance this season has earned him a spot in the starting lineup for the team. The forward gets to start over the Warriors’ four-time champion Klay Thompson, which in itself speaks a lot about his form. And yet receiving praise from Thompson himself goes on to add the impact Kuminga’s been having on the team.

Jonathan Kuminga wants to be a Warrior for life

In the 2021 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors picked Jonathan Kuminga as the 7th overall pick. In his third year on the team, the player has improved drastically. Despite a shaky start to the season, now the forward plays many important minutes for the team. In early January, Kuminga expressed frustration towards the relationship with Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr.

The player openly talked about being unhappy with the low amount of minutes he got in the games.

It was just definitely to a point where I felt like I need to be [on the court]. I felt like I could help. I felt like there was just so much left on the table where I felt like me and the young guys could go out there and help Steph, Klay and Draymond.
