Golden State Warriors duo Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have been one of the few constants in the NBA in the past decade. The ‘Splash Brothers’, as they are fondly known, redefined the game with their shooting prowess and led the franchise to four NBA titles.
However, it appears that the duo’s time together may be coming to an end. Thompson is entering the final year of his five-year, $189.9 million contract and will be a free agent next summer if he doesn’t reach an agreement on a new contract with the Warriors this year. The team haa been unable to strike a deal with Thompson, and their have been disagreements about his contract.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported, “There’s a very real possibility that Klay Thompson goes into free agency next summer without a deal.”
Former Golden State Warriors head of basketball operations, Bob Myers, also gave his thoughts on the matter. He said, “This is a delicate negotiation. From what I know and see, he wants to stay. They want him to stay.” Whether or not the Warriors are able to retain their star shooting guard however, remains to be seen.

How much has Klay Thompson impacted the Warriors
Thompson was one of the most crucial aspects of the Warriors offense for years. He was always a deadly shooter and was one of the best catch-and-shoot players in the league.
At a point in time, he almost had the same gravity as Curry and the duo often left defenses wondering whom to guard enabling easy scoring opportunities for their teammates. Thompson has been an integral part of the Warriors’ four championships runs in the last nine years.
The Warriors are well aware of his value. However, there is a feeling that after his injury his production has suffered and this could cause the Warriors to be hesitant about giving him a new deal. Should the Warriors choose to release Thompson it will be unclear where he goes. Hopefully for Warriors fans however, the organization is able to set a deal with Thompson and keep him in Golden State.
