Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving has been a real one with Kevin Durant in their so far disappointing series with the Boston Celtics. The legendary duo of Brooklyn Nets has sticked together for all the ups and downs the franchise has faced this season. From James Harden’s departure, Uncle Drew’s vaccination saga which is finally resolved and he is a full-time player and even allowed at Barclays Center to all the concerning injuries. They were also stuck in the play-in tournament after leading the eastern conference for a while. But now winning it all they have made it to the postseason and are going all in and against of the Boston Celtics where they aren’t having a great time. As the Celtics lead by 2-0 and have a great chance to advance ahead.

The Boston Celtics hosted the Brooklyn Nets twice at the TD Garden and got both the dubs. Both the games played so far in the series were closely contested and head to head but it seems like the Celtics duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown with the backcourt backed up by DPOY Marcus Smart is a better match-up as of now compared to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. But it’s not over yet as the Nets have the potential to turn around the narrative anytime they want but the things aren’t just working great for them.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant both are able to get in and bend the defensive end of the Boston Celtics but aren’t able to break it apart on the offensive end and build a strong lead. They even got a 15-plus point lead in Game 2 but the Celtics easily got rid of it and won it all. In the game, Kyrie Irving dropped 10 points, 1 assist, and 8 rebounds while Kevin Durant got 27 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Both were down bad on shooting as they were closely contested with physical contacts and had many transitional plays. In the post-game interview, Uncle Drew showcased his class and loyalty to his mates by defending him and taking over.

Kyrie Irving discussing their run so far in the series quoted: “He shot 20 free throws, that doesn’t happen often and I don’t want to put it right on Kev because it’s a team game and we really want to focus on our team cohesion and building that. That’s been part of our points of emphasis in the locker room and during practices… is just raising our level and physicality, staying together through tough moments. You know, realizing when our intensity is not at a certain level, we’re just not playing the same.”

Further, Kyrie taking the blame on his head and being honest as an ultimate teammate quoted: “So, it’s not all on Kev, I think you know for myself, I can take accountability, I think everybody on our team takes accountability, but for him specifically as a PG, I just got him to get him to his spots and make the game a lot easier and I believe I can do that.” This take of his really shows out to the league where superstars throw each other under the bus, that how strong their relationship is, and how good the energy in the locker room is. The Brooklyn Nets still stand a fair chance as they’ll be hosting the Boston Celtics at Barclays Center for Game 3 with the advantages of home court.
