Kyrie Irving has been embroiled in controversy for the past two seasons from his anti-vaccination stance to anti-Semitic tweets. In the midst, of all of this, Kyrie lost his brand deal at Nike due to his promotion of anti-Semitic media. During the 2023 All-star game, Kyrie was spotted covering up the Nike logo on his shoes. He used what looked like pieces of cloth chopped up and tied around his boot to cover any logo on the side.

However, this is not the first time Kyrie Irving has attempted to do this. Kyrie got creative earlier this season and covered up the Nike logo with his own beliefs. He has stated on multiple occasions that he will not back down on his stances and believes that freedom of speech is vital and that he is being oppressed while sharing his ideas. ‘Ankletaker’ will look forward to more creative ways to hide the logo for the rest of the season.

Kyrie is not the first person to cover up a logo on the big stage. Michael Jordan famously covered the Reebok logo on the USA team jersey during the 1992 Olympics. Jordan was on a deal with Nike while Reebok sponsored Team USA. Reebok threatened him saying they would not allow him to receive his winning medal if he did not wear the Reebok jacket. Jordan proceeded to drape the jacket with the USA flag and cover the logo. A smart and patriotic gesture that was lauded by all.

Kyrie Irving has been having a great season aside from his off-court antics

Kyrie Irving started this season as a Brooklyn Net and now is a Dallas Maverick but his performances have remained top-class. He was selected as an all-star starter in the East despite currently playing in the Western Conference. He is averaging 27 points per game this season while being just a tad below 50/40/90 efficiency.

The Australian star had an impressive performance in the All-star game as well putting up 32 points and 15 assists. Although he ended up on the losing side, he did enjoy playing with his good friend LeBron James. LeBron selected Kyrie with his second pick among the starters and they greeted each other with their choreographed handshake too.

Kyrie Irving will likely continue to be surrounded by controversy throughout his career. However, this season his primary goal is to win with Dallas Maverics. The Mavericks have taken a risk by signing a volatile figure like Kyrie, but if Luka can gel with him there is no stopping them. The Mavs will still be on the edge of their seats as there is no predicting Kyrie’s antics.
