Joe Tsai and Kyrie Irving

Recently Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving came into headlines after he came in support of an antisemitic film ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.’ In contrast to his views, Brooklyn Nets owner – Joe Tsai was disappointed with his marquee star’s stance and support for the same. Following that, Kyrie reacted in his defense that he wasn’t in support of any particular race or religion.

To bring everyone on the same page, Joe Tsai quoted in his tweet, “I’m disappointed that Kyrie appears to support a film based on a book full of anti-semitic disinformation. I want to sit down and make sure he understands this is hurtful to all of us, and as a man of faith, it is wrong to promote hate based on race, ethnicity or religion.” Earlier the Nets also had stated that they strongly condemn and have no tolerance for promoting any form of hate speech.

Kyrie Irving quoted in his response tweet, “I am an OMNIST and I meant no disrespect to anyone’s religious beliefs. The “Anti-Semitic” label that is being pushed on me is not justified and does not reflect the reality or truth I live in everyday. I embrace and want to learn from all walks of life and religions.”

Nets star Kyrie Irving doesn’t think he did anything wrong by posting about the movie, which is said to be antisemitic, for which he got backlash on his social media handles after a statement from the Nets and a tweet of disagreement from the Nets owner.

Kyrie came out in his defense, stating that he grew up in a ‘melting pot’ with ingredients of all races like White, Black, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and so on. The marquee PG emphasized on how he adjusted his life accordingly. The 2016 NBA Champ also clarified that he doesn’t support everything said or done or that he campaigns for and only posts for ‘his community people’ and the ones who would be affected by it.

Irving also termed that the movie is available on the OTT platform ‘Amazon Prime Video.’ He also appealed to people not to treat him differently and that he, too, is a human being. The NBA also condemned Irving’s post with a public statement, but the statement misspelled the word antisemitism. Again, Kyrie has tried to soil his image.
