In a memorable incident from last season, after the Dallas Mavericks played against the Memphis Grizzlies, Kyrie Irving was visibly upset about his team losing. Then, Dillon Brooks tried to cheer him up by offering his jersey, but Kyrie surprisingly said no. Recently, on his Twitch stream, Kyrie explained what really happened

Last season, the Mavericks seemed promising, but their playoff journey hit a roadblock as they were ousted by the Grizzlies in the next round, further complicated by Luka Doncic‘s absence. Amidst this backdrop, a quirky incident unfolded. As if scripted for a sitcom, Dillon Brooks eagerly prepared for a jersey swap with Kyrie Irving, jersey in hand. However, Kyrie unexpectedly turned the tables, gifting Brooks his jersey, exchanging a handshake, and departing. What followed was Twitter igniting with merciless trolling aimed at Brooks.

In the Grizzlies’ home court, the Mavericks suffered a 112-108 loss. A key moment came when Brooks accidentally stepped on Irving’s foot during the game, leading Irving to wear a walking boot afterward. This unfortunate incident had a visible impact on Irving’s performance in the fourth quarter, as he missed all eight of his shot attempts.

Right after the game, Kyrie Irving was asked about the incident, and he responded that his mind was already moving towards what comes next, not fully engaged in the present moment. However, in a more recent development, he took to his Twitch livestream to lay out the truth behind the scenes. He candidly shared that his frustration was actually boiling over due to his team’s failure to secure a spot in the playoffs, explaining the root of his anger during that time.

Me and him had a whole viral moment this year when after the game, I was pissed, that I got hurt again, during the game. I was pissed. Not necessarily just pissed, I was pissed at him. He knew it too. He didn’t do it on purpose or I don’t know if he did it on purpose, but he [Dillon Brooks] hurt me again in the game.. I didn’t take his jersey after the game because I was just so focussed on getting to the locker and focus on my recover. I didn’t play that s**t on him,” Irving said.

As the upcoming NBA season approaches, there’s a fresh chapter in the works. Kyrie Irving is gearing up to rejoin the Mavericks, while Dillon Brooks has switched sides and is now part of the Houston Rockets. With any lingering tension seemingly put to rest, the spotlight now turns to their on-court dynamic. It’s a captivating narrative to watch unfold, especially since the NBA season kicks off in October.
