However, their record being so right has fans speculating that they both might want to lose. The reason is the Phoenix Suns. Nobody wants to face a Kevin Durant-led team in the playoffs, and winning would take either team straight to 5th.
Both the teams own tiebreakers against the Golden State Warriors; thus, by winning, one of them would go above them instantly. However, the loser of this game would avoid the Phoenix Suns, and if the Warriors lose again, they could take the 6th seed and get a favorable match-up against an inexperienced Sacramento Kings side.
The Lakers and Clippers share an identical home record and away record despite having a very contrasting season at one point. The Lakers started the season 0-5, and the Clippers have been as high as a four-seed this season. The Lakers have been exceptional in a tight Western Conference after Russell Westbrook left them.
