“The alley-oop we have all been waiting for” Lakers Nation loses its mind as Russell Westbrook and LeBron James combine for epic two-man-play
Russell Westbrook and LeBron James
LeBron James had a heroic performance as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. In the absence of big man superstar Anthony Davis, the Lakers were without a certified rim protector and a scorer who could score at will against the Spurs’ defense. Not only did LeBron rise up to the occasion, but the rest of the Lakers also showed up in the win.
LeBron James had 39 points, 11 rebounds, and made 7 three-point shots in the game, tying his career high in 3-pointers. However, in the last few games, the Lakers have shot better than their horrible record at the beginning of the season. The Lakers drilled 58.1% of their field goals and over that, they shot over 50% from the 3-point line.
Starting the game, James remained mostly passive in the first quarter and tried to engage his teammates. He also had less than 50% of his field goals at the end of the second quarter. However, the game took a U-turn once James put his feet on the pedal. Driving to the basket, shooting from beyond the perimeter, and making 100% free throws, he looked different and led his team to a win.
LeBron James and the Lakers scored 143 points in their win against the San Antonio Spurs
The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs turned out to be a high-scoring game as both teams combined for 281 points. The Lakers had a big contribution from Austin Reaves scoring 16 points, Lonnie Walker IV with 19, and Dennis Schroder with 21 points. Except for Westbrook and LeBron, the players did not turnover the ball a lot which is a good sign, but as long as Anthony Davis remains out, rim protection is going to be a troubling factor for the Lakers.
In the next few games Lakers face some of the best teams in the league which are either 500 or +500 in their record. The Lakers will play Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Portland Trail Blazers like teams in their coming games. While Anthony Davis was out with an injury, the Lakers desperately needed a win to improve their standing in the stacked Western Conference.
Fans react to Russell Westbrook’s alley-oop to LeBron James which ended with an monstrous slam
LeBron James and Russell Westbrook made a highlight in the stat-studded game against the San Antonio Spurs with an ally-oop, which perhaps the fans have been waiting for since Russell was acquired by the Lakers last year. With 55 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Austin Reaves stole the ball and LeBron collected it in the fast break. James found Russ in the transition and threw him the ball, but Westbrook was ready to make a highlight for the Laker fans.
As he received the ball from James, he threw back a perfect high ally-oop, James caught the ball high above the rim and hammered the ball into the basket. This sent shockwaves around the arena and also on the internet. You can find some of the many reactions posted by fans on social media platforms here below:
At this age, LeBron’s vertical is out of this world, and an insane display of athleticism. He puts in the work and maintains his body is a well-known fact about James, but at this age, a month shy of 38 years, James has definitely set a new standard for the prime. Lakers fans have been long hoping for James, Westbrook, and Anthony Davis trio to work, since Davis was injured last season, their chemistry hasn’t been able to build over time. However, all three are comparatively healthy this season but except for their recent run, failed to impress at the beginning of the season.
