Latest stat suggests how Luka Doncic has taken over TRIPLE-DOUBLE game even before turning 25

Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic is light years ahead of his age to perform on a superstar level at just 23 years old. The Slovenian star had taken a leap in his career before he even stepped into the NBA. There is a reason the Dallas Mavericks and NBA fans gave him the name ‘Luka Magic’. Whatever he does on the court is nothing short of magical.

Despite a badly constructed roster, the Mavs are riding on Doncic’s shoulders this season. The 3x All-Star has been averaging 33.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.6 assists this season. He is leading the league in points scored per game and also has the highest efficiency in the league.

In the win against the Golden State Warriors, Doncic had his 3rd triple-double of the season the most by any player this season so far. If the stat doesn’t look crazy; nobody in the league has so far scored 40 points triple-double this season. He had 41 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists against the Warriors.

It was Doncic’s 3rd 40-point triple-double of the season and he has become the only player to do so before turning 25. Only Oscar Robertson has done it before Luka, who had four 40-point triple-doubles in different seasons before turning 25. He has 62 games left in the season and perhaps he might make a new record for himself this time. It was Luka’s 51st career triple-double and 5th 40 points triple-double. Now he is behind only Oscar Robertson, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and LeBron James in NBA history.

After Dallas’ win against the Warriors, head coach Jason Kidd was asked about Doncic’s triple-double performance. “It’s getting boring,” Jason Kidd jokingly replied. “I mean, let’s see something different. Maybe do it with his left hand. I’m just joking,” Kidd added.

Dallas Mavericks bring in Kemba Walker to support Luka Doncic

Kemba Walker and Jrue Holiday

The Dallas Mavericks have been substantially struggling when Luka Doncic is not on the floor. A lot of the team’s failure in his absence can be attributed to the absence of another ball handler for Dallas. Statistically, his teammates are shooting 50.2 percent from the field when Doncic is on the assisting end. However, their shooting percentage collapses to 45.5 percent when he is not on the floor.

The numbers not only allude to Luka Doncic’s greatness to create easy shots for his teammates but also the need for another point guard for the team. The addition of Kemba Walker would not immediately be the cure the Mavs are looking for but it at least can reduce the bleeding when Luka is on the bench. However, Kemba has been struggling with his knee issues and his production can only be judged after 20-30 more games into the season.
