4x All-Star Kemba Walker has finally found a place for himself in the NBA. Dallas Mavericks are signing Walker after he was waived by the Detroit Pistons. The 32 years old veteran had been struggling to find a team for himself since being traded from Boston. The Bronx-born New York native will have another chance to prove his worth to the league.

According to Mark Stein, the Mavericks will waive Facundo Campazzo to create space on the roster to bring the former all-star in. Walker has a plethora of offensive arsenal in his bag and can provide Luka Doncic and the Mavs more options on the offensive end. The move from Dallas came after their fourth consecutive loss which came against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Walker signed with Boston Celtics after the trade from Charlotte Hornets, but after losing in the first round of the 2020-2021 playoffs, the Celtics traded Kemba to Oklahoma City Thunder in 2021. Both Walker and the OKC mutually agreed to the buyout and finally, he signed with the New York Knicks.

Kemba Walker‘s stint with the Knicks was expected to add an offensive spark to their lineup. The New York native Walker could not do so and was sidelined for the rest of the season. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons in July. The last time Walker was on a regular roster, with the Knicks he finished with 11.6 points and 3.5 assists per game in 37 games.

After losing Jalen Brunson to New York Knicks in free agency, the Mavericks have been looking for another ball handler in the team. Brunson flourished in Dallas and played a crucial role in winning playoff games when Doncic was out with an injury. He has grown to become a primary decision-maker in New York.

Mark Cuban believes Kemba Walker would give flexibility to Mavericks’ offense

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban believes that adding Walker to the roster would give them better offense in the games. Dallas does not have many decision-makers and ball handlers apart from Spencer Dinwiddie and Luka Doncic, and adding Kemba Walker would give them an opportunity to have a flexible offense. “We wanted to add some flexibility to our offense,” Cuban said.

Even the shooting has slumped down from the Dallas roster. Dorian Finney Smith, Reggie Bullock, and Tim Hardaway all have been struggling with their shots this season. Adding Walker will also add to their shooting and perhaps give Luka some more rest on the bench. “Like last year at this point, we have great shot quality, particularly from the 3, but we have struggled to make enough of them. Kemba will give J-Kidd more offensive flexibility,” said Cuban.

Since signing with the Celtics, the former Charlotte star’s numbers had significantly dropped as compared to his time in Charlotte. However, not only did his minutes drop in Boston but also unlike Charlotte, he wasn’t their primary offensive player. Hopefully, by signing with the Mavericks, Walker can prove he is worth every penny.
