Latest stat suggests Warriors star Stephen Curry to be the most underrated GOAT contender
Stephen Curry of Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry is clearly sharp shooter on the court. But after making in the 6 NBA Finals in last 8 seasons, some impressive stats of the Warriors guard are also revealed.
Stephen Curry proved to be the catalyst for the Golden State Warriors again as he scored game-high 29 points in the game leading the team to win game 2 of the NBA Finals. Playing for his 4th Championship ring, Curry showed exquisite shooting display, while finding his teammates on important occasions. Though he made just 4 assists in the game, his indirect impact – attracting defense made the game easier for the players to score. Along with such impressive offensive caliber, 34-years old megastar has developed on his defenses also, as he took opportunities to steal the loose pass and initiate the fast break. For the Warriors team, he leads in many categories playing into the NBA finals, but interestingly he ranks in the top 5 players for many categories in the postseason performances, since his debut in the league.
Of course, Steph is playing in his 6th NBA finals in the 13th NBA season, which itself is quite an achievement – but leading in points, assists, rebounds, steals, field goals made, and surely the 3-pointers scored makes it even more impressive. As per stats, Golden state Warriors’ Golden boy is amongst the 5 players in all the above-mentioned categories since his inclusion in the league.
Stephen Curry shining bright in NBA Finals games
21 years old Stephen Curry was drafted as the 7th overall pick by Golden State Warriors. He had all the offensive skills that made him a top 10 pick of the 2009 draft. But his ascend in the team was quite remarkable, as he quickly became the primary ball-handler and franchise player in just 3 seasons. The team was built around Steph, with the addition of Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
Just after making a playoff appearance in 2013, Golden State Warriors started to make exercise their dominance in the league – behind Steph’s play-making and explosive scoring. He along with his Splash Brother Klay Thompson changed the style of play with more long-range shooting, of course with higher accuracy. That impacted the game and opponent defenses.
With Steph on the floor, the Warriors team would make huge scoring runs and change the outcome of the game. Statistically, he played 29 NBA finals games, and has some key players like Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Kwahi Leonard, LeBron James, and Kyrie Irvine could match that many NBA Finals games. LeBron in particular had the most games, playing 9 NBA finals since 2009.
In those 29 games, Stephen has scored massive 804 points (26.8 points average), and ranked 2nd, just behind LeBron in the mentioned era. King James played 51 Finals games since 2009 and maintained high standards right from game 1. We will have him leading in most of the stats, especially in the NBA Finals games.
Curry stands 3rd in Assists with 183 assists (6.1 assists per game) with his teammate Draymond Green ranking just above him and below LBJ. Interestingly 6’2” Curry is also amongst the top 5 rebounders with 171 rebounds (5.7 rebounds per game), with Kwahi Leonard, Tristan Thompson, and Draymond Green between him and King James.
Defensively improved Steph ranks 3rd in steals, with a total of 49 steals (1.6 steals per game); again accompanied by Draymond Green and LeBron James for this category.
With LeBron and Draymond leading in most of the statistics, Curry is the leader in 3-points made, with 133 three-pointers and his Splash Brother Klay Thompson follows him at 3rd behind LeBron James. With 39.1% accuracy, Steph managed to cause a lot of damage to the opposition, and also he is in the top 5 for field goals made – 255 FGM (8.5). LeBron playing nearly 75% more games than Steph gives him a huge advantage in the totals stats. But both players have pretty similar averages over the finals games.
These impressive statistics prove that 3-time NBA Champion Stephen is an incredible player, though he misses the NBA Finals MVP award from his resume. The majestic run in the 2022 NBA finals might change that stat also, provided the Warriors win the title.
