In the world of basketball, athletes have a lot of exposure to the sport if they have had someone in the sport since their childhood. One such instance is with the famous Ball Brothers (Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo Ball) in the NBA. In a recent interview with the father of the brothers, LaVar Ball said he was a basketball dad and trained the brothers since they were very young
LaVar Ball started training his boys very early on in their life. He didn’t believe in waiting for a certain time to start. He believed that training them from a young age would help them understand the competition and make them better players. The father had high expectations of his three sons. All three have made their impact from the school level to the NBA level.
LaVar said, “Okay you talking about some training talking about some athletic training but I train I gave him the ghetto Olympics. What I mean by that is in the living room I didn’t have no couches and stuff. I had a table let them jump off the table and see if they can land on that mat without falling down. The father put the Ball brothers through an unusual training regimen around the house. Sometimes, they could have gotten hurt. LaVar continued, But everything was competition okay I have them hanging on a pull-up bar to see who can drop first so they was very you know very competitive at an early age.”
Their exposure to basketball and enhanced skills result from LaVar’s strategic training. He made the Ball brothers play against older kids before their middle school days. This kind of training helped the brothers to understand the game better and hone their skills. The training helped them make their way to the NBA.
The Ball brothers’ journey in the NBA
Lonzo Ball became the first Ball Brother to play in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers drafted him as the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. Although Lonzo’s debut season was rocky due to his knee and shoulder injuries, he made a great comeback by getting into the All-NBA Rookie second team. As of today, Lonzo Ball plays for the Chicago Bulls.
LaMelo was the second one who got drafted. The Charlotte Hornets picked him up, and is one of the youngest under 20 to play in the NBA. His impressive play-making skills and assists have always put fans in awe to watch him play on the court. Lamelo was given the Rookie of the Year award for his debut season in 2021. In the 2022 NBA season, LaMelo became an NBA All-Star, putting up a great show for his fans to watch.
LiAngelo Ball, on the other hand, has played with the Charlotte Hornets, making him another one of the success stories among the brothers to play in the NBA. In all, the Ball brother’s work ethic, determination, and their father’s role in training them from very early on have resulted in their present-day success in playing in the NBA and also the finest players in the league.
