The Phoenix Suns were handed a bad loss by the Orlando Magic yesterday. A fourth-quarter scoring collapse by the Suns coupled with elite defense from the Magic turned the game around. But something that went on throughout the game brought out some choice words from two superstars on either side. A new leaked audio footage shows us how it went down between them.

Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker was playing lights out throughout the game. However, during a set of free throws, Booker complained to the referee by saying;

I ain’t have a game like this all season. I’ve been hit in the head three times

To this Magic superstar, Paolo Banchero replied;

You’ve been crying all game, n****.

This taunt from Banchero came after Booker complained to the referees about getting hit in the head multiple times while attempting shots close to the basket. The video in this footage shows us Banchero did hit Booker on the head while driving to the basket.

In a play, Booker was being defended by Banchero next to the baseline. He faked left to throw Banchero off the defensive stance and drove right along the baseline. When Booker jumped up to shoot a floater, Banchero reeling from behind, tried to block the attempt. Instead, his hand hit Booker on the head. Booker referenced this along with other hits to the head when he complained to the referee.

Banchero and the Magic had turned the tables on the Suns in the fourth quarter. So when Booker complained at the free throw line, that is when Banchero decided to talk back. The taunt was directed at Booker. Had the game been in the Suns’ hands, Booker might not have complained. Banchero knowing this taunted Booker to gain an edge in the mind games.

How the game unfolded for the Magic vs the Suns

The Phoenix Suns were slowly clawing themselves back into playoff contention after a not-so-great start to their season. The game against the Orlando Magic should have been easy business for the superstar-laden Suns. And that is how it seemed for the first three quarters. Then in the fourth quarter, the Magic’s adjustments turned the game around.

The Magic fielded a lineup of Banchero, the brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner, and Jonathan Isaac in the fourth quarter. All of them are 6-10 or taller. The big lineup caused problems for the Suns. They could not get shots off with all these long hands in their face. The added physicality from the big men led to a scoring collapse. The Magic outscored the Suns 31-13 in the fourth quarter to win the game 113-98.

Banchero talking smack to Booker was just the icing on the cake in the Suns’ disastrous fourth-quarter collapse. They do not play again this season, but it was a good win for the Magic after a losing month.
